I asked a question about wedding venues and missed the clause about getting sucked into the meme world if I responded. Snap!
So here it is - the following five words were given to me by Col_ki. If you comment on my post, I will give you five words to do.
WoW, Lionel, charityvigil, blackrock and (because of someone I know who shares your name) Scotland.
WoW
The World of Warcraft. It's interesting when I look back on the last five years and really see just how big a part of my life that this game has played. I first heard about Wow when Lionel mentioned it to me. We were going out at the time and he was slowly introducing me to the world of gaming. Before that, I'd played bits and bobs by myself, but never online. I didn't even know what an MMORPG was. I'd seen my brother play UO, but that was it.
Lionel loved this Warcraft 3 game, and got me to have a mess around. I noticed the similarities to Red Alert which my brother introduced me to back when I was, like, 12. So I played Warcraft a bit and started to get right into the story line. I read up a lot about it and got very excited when Lionel mentioned that an online version was coming out.
So, I preordered it and about 6 months later I took two weeks off work and played it non stop. My first character was a night elf druid who's server promptly died. It took me over half an hour just to learn how to swim under water... auto attack was my bane, it took me ages to figure out I didn't need to click to attack. Took me a while to break the clicky Diablo 2 habit!
Anyway, I leveled that new druid a bit before realising that my friends, well Lionel's friends, were all on some other server, a dirty pvp server in fact, playing ewww Horde.
But I was bored and a little bit lonely so I switched and thus came about Liselyn.
Liselyn is (was) a Troll Mage. She's been my main ever since.
So that's the gaming aspect of it, which isn't so interesting. The social aspect is much different. Almost 90% of my current friends play or have played wow in the past. I met my future husband through friends on wow. I found out about a year ago that his first character was a rogue, when he told me his name I was like "wtf, I hated that guy!". Crazy!
So as it goes, The world of warcraft has sucked up almost $1500 and maybe 150 days of my life, but has given me access to a myriad of friends and introduced me to my fiance. Pretty worth it, imo :)
Lionel
I met Lionel for the first time at a Curtin Anime Club screening. He was with Royce (Who I went to highschool with), who had run into Lionel at Trinity whilst playing Quake III. He became a fixture in our group of friends from then on and so I believe I've known him for... 8 years now. Holy crap, that's a long time...
Anyway, Lionel and I went out for just over two years before going our own ways. We're still very good friends and he is going to be one of Craig's groomsmen at the wedding! He's currently going out with a wonderful girl, Lucy, who is excellent for him. She's a hell of a lot of fun!
Charity Vigil
I think I've been to two Charity Vigils. The first, I met a lot of people that I'd only ever met online! Again, it was when Lionel and I were going out and he was pretty psyched up about it, so I thought I would go too. I seem to remember curling up in a chair at about 2:30am and falling asleep before staggering back to Trinity and falling asleep there.
The second one, I went with Trent and I went back to the car around the same time and slept there... I'm not much for vigils, I'm afraid ;)
Blackrock
Home Sweet Home. Even now days when I'm wandering around Azeroth, I still think of Blackrock Mountain being "home". God knows we spent a lot of time there... It was also the name of our original WoW guild and while most of the originals are no longer playing, there were still some amazing memories tied to the Blackrock Clan. I made some great friends in there that I still have today.
Scotland
I would love to visit Scotland one day... When Craig and I went to the UK for four weeks last year, we really wanted to get up there and explore Scotland but unfortunately we just didn't manage it. We did end up spending a few days in the Lake District near the England/Scotland border and the sheer beauty of that place hints as to what Scotland itself might be like. We do intend to go back to the UK one day (We're still not over the flights yet, 6 months later), and then we'll do Ireland and Scotland instead of just touring England and Wales.
