Sam's Town

Last night (Friday) John and I went to see The Killers at the Wiltern LG - absolutely awesome show, and a super great venue! We were in the upstairs section and it didn't really seem like there was a bad seat in the house. The whole place is just really cool - very old Hollywood glam.

The Killers played a really great show - a lovely mix of favorites from Hot Fuss and great songs from their new album, Sam's Town. The set was decorated kind of old-timey, with weathered wood facades for their monitors and stuff. Brandon Flowers had a keyboard on stage that looked like a shiny claw with a disco ball in its grasp - pretty bad-ass. The whole production was really great as far as lighting and sound goes. I definitely enjoy their new album, there is something for everyone - and its not as much of a throw-back to Queen as some reviews say.

I also received a few more BPAL samples this weekend!

Snow White ’05: A chilly, bright perfume: flurries of virgin snow, crisp winter wind and the faintest breath of night-blooming flowers.

I’m absolutely in love! When I first read about this scent I was really hoping I’d love it and I wasn’t wrong - although this wasn’t exactly what I expected! In the bottle and initially on my skin I get a smoky scent - not tobacco or regular fire smoke, it’s more like a campfire in the distance scent or perhaps a faint wet, burned wood smell. This is really different from a lot of reviews I’ve read who can pick out a floral or fruit note, so I thought I was kinda going crazy :P After this dries down, it smells very creamy and vanilla with a ultra soft bit of floral. When it fades out it is almost all creamy and vanilla - but so subtle it’s not really foody. I love this, and I’m totally on the lookout for larger quantities - the only problem is that it’s not a very strong scent, I’m really going to have to slather it on to get an effect or else I’m going to be smelling my wrists constantly!

Sugar Cookie ’05: Affectionately nicknamed 'The Devil's Bake Sale'

At first sniff, this is really boozy sweet vanilla - like a spiked cream soda or milkshake. Now that it has dried it smells a lot like buttercream, with maybe even a tiny milk chocolate note in there. I really like it, nothing to complain about. This one is a lot stronger than Snow White as well, so a little will go longer. Not sure if I’d buy a bottle or search for one on ebay - still deciding.

The seller also kindly included a free sample of a Fudge Brownie perfume oil - haven't gotten a chance to wear it yet (tomorrow probably), but in the bottle it smells like chocolate liqueur - yummmmmmm-o!
