Storm Damage Reports

Montgomery, AL (WSFA) - National Weather Service reports say 3 tornados touchdown in East Alabama today.  The first at 8:43a in Tallassee near the Reeves Airport and County Road 51 in far southern Tallapoosa County.

The second at 9:10a, a report from Lee County, 3 miles northwest of Opelika. A few vehicles were overturned near the intersection of Highway 280 and Highway 147.  One home was destroyed and a few billboards were destroyed.

A third report at 9:32a, 5 miles Northwest of Bleecker in Lee County, Several homes damaged with people trapped inside. Trees were blown down. Location near Salem on Highway 280 near Lee Road 254.

A NWS Storm Survey Team is on the way to East Alabama to assess the damage to officially determine if these were in fact tornados.

There are also reports of major street flooding in the city of Auburn, some areas as deep as one foot.

An additional report from Tallassee indicated a possible tornado touchdown 2 miles outside Tallassee on Lower Tuskegee Road.  The storym destroyed a large storage shed, took the roof off a wood shed, and snapped a power pole. The damage was contained to one property. No injuries were reported.

Another report out of Salem, AL (Lee county) Significant damage in the downtown area of Salem. Some structures completely destroyed. Unknown number of injuries reported from people in the area.

Currently, there are no reports of serious injuries.
