I had even started Nabari before the Anime came. I grasped the first 3 Chapters on Timcampy somewhen early 2007 and only came to read it Somewhat november 2007. I dopped it after these 3 chapters isnce no other chapters (seemingly) were in sight, and had planned to continue it, when I find more scans. (well, I never searched, since I had no own internet until march and there is a limit as to how much one can pester friend's poor PCs.)

I _was_ surprised an anime came out. About the first 6 Eps I was all fired up, believing, this _could_ become my second favorite Anime.
In May, a fireind somehow grasped a certain raw scan of Volume 7, asking me to tell her was Yoite was saying there. That's when I continued the Manga.

I must say, the Anime dissapointed me widely. If it weren't for all this Anime trash this year, it would probably counted as a flop for me. (But whatever. The Mangas is among my top 4 now, that should do fine for the moment.)

It started VERY promising. The action sequences in EP 1 were fine to behold and the voice cast as well as the OST is superb. But the former has not been used up to its potential. See, for example Suwabe Junichi (Raikou's voice) is SO much more capable than what is shown in the Nabari Anime. (Go watch Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohahoniheto and you'll hear what I mean.)

What I hab trouble with until EP 16 was about that even through it almost followed 1:1 from the manga it was brought over rather boring.
For example the "I can't get off the mountain of corpses" shot. It filled a whole Manga page and the shot in the Anime was nice, too, but it probably only lasted half a second. Later, they seemed to have simply kicked them all out. I still miss the Aiwaza Shot of Vol 8, where he stand on this little wall saying "We fell in love with death".

Anyways, as long as it followed the Manga it was halfway okay, through I don't understand, how the producers actually were capable of adapting something almost 1:1 but slashing more than half of its original atmosphere/drama/comedy/anything.

Ever after EP 16...
I WANTED TO PUNCH JC STAFF.

Seriously, what did they do to poor Yukimi? He's become a throughout coward?!
And Yoite has no proper character evolvement, either. And MIharu's just popped up, with nowhere to have any proper explanation, as how HOW he actually got attached to Yoite that much.
Oh and don't forget these THROUGHOUTLY misplaced Shounen Ai-Shots. I was slapping my hands over my eyes more than once.

Character limit. =_="

Then, It's fine, they tried to fill in some later manga-materials in. But please have SOME LOGIC.
Like in EP 19. As a stand alone, it's nice, picturing Yukimi's and Yoite's past (even through far not as beatiful as in the Manga). But hey, this chapter was there in the manga to enhance Yukimi's attachment to Yoite.
I found it very misplaced, since about one single episode ago, they were trying too kill off each other. (Which killed the nice later Manga phrase of Yoite never pointing his Kira finger at him, along with it.)
Besides the whole Episode with Tobari having dissapeared, but was in school - What was that supposed to be?

etc. etc. etc.

I see the main problem is the following: The Producers (actually is the director or the scriptwriter more to blame?) sort of forgot, when they started, that the Manga Material up to then was limited.
See, They stubburnly followed the Manga, with little cuts (through, actually I don't see why they kicked out all these faint hints about Miharu's parents, since they did appear in the Anime) and the they ran out of it and probably thought "Oh shit, we must make up something new", while not actually knowing anything about this fictionate world. I mean, the manga has faint hints for later events thrown through the whole story, but the anime didn't really bother to take them uo and conclude them. The probably didn't even see them...

They SHOULD have at least waited a year, then Vol 9 would have also served as original material to adapt from and after ch50 they could have well maed a sort of season 1 end cut and continue later.
Or they just should have made up their own proper script from the beginning. Bones did a very well job in FMA in that case, creating their own main plot and having the manga-adapted events surbordinated into their whole plot.

I'd probaly rant forever, I think.... So I better stop.
But I don't see any chance of it getting a second season. I think they somehow conclude it to a sort of end, but that will get very unsatisfying.
They only chance is probably a whole Anime-remake. But even FMA took 4 Years to get the offcial annoucement of being remade, and FMA is a WHOLE LOT more known than Nabari.
I don't hope much... Being a pessimistic person, anyway.

OK, after the rant, I think I try writing about the good points of the Anime.

First, Michiru Oushima's score!!! *___*
My favorite Anime composer, seriously. I like the Chevalier d'Eon OST still more, but this one's coming directly after it.
I was really fired up, when I saw the trailer. The music was SIMPLY georgeous, I fell in love with it right away.

Second: Mitsuki Saiga's voice. *___*
I loved her voice in Ashita no Nadja and Terra e already, but her as Yoite beats anything.

Third: Suwabe Junichi's voice
I like this voice. I just like it. He has such a talented voice, beatufully shown in Iroha.

Fourth: Daisuke Namikawa's Voice. *___*
Through Tobari doesn't beat Akitsuki from Iroha. Still great to hear.

Fifth: The Animation style.
It was refreshing new, but they didn't make out as much as they could. T___T
But I noticed the backgrounds of Otogi Zoshi (at leas in EP1) are somewhat similiar, only far darker, greyer and sort of disconsolate.

- Kenji Tsuda's voice
It's funny, if you try to picture Kaiba from Yugioh or Inui from Prince of tennis into your head, comparing them with Yukimi. LOL. But he also spoke one of Ashita no nadja, who was writing for a newspaper and I liked that role already too.

- Rie Kumigimiya
I liked her as Al in FMA. I disliked her as Louse in Zero no Tsukaima or Shana in Shakugan no Shana. Her feemale roles somehow tend to become Tsunderes. It's been really nice to hear her speak a male voice again.

- The whole rest of the Voice cast.
The only reason why I didn't drop the Anime. I like listening to the voices and the OST way too much. Why the heck they only screwed up with the rest. T___T

- Yoite of the first few Eps
Well, the Manga Yoite in the beginning still seemed to need some more drawing practise, while the Anime Yoite looks really cute in the first few Eps. Just why had they have to make him look to pathethically sick later on?! >_

AHAHAHA!

Wow. So much text!!!!!!

I absolutely think that the voice actors were perfect in their roles. Especially Gau and Yukimi.

They were doing a great job with the script until the very anti-climactic end. It never got to explain Yoite's past and they automatically made Hattori a bad person- which he isn't completely. AND no Tsukasa! D:

I agree. Gau's voice did very well, even so much more, considering he's more or less a newbie (or at least he doesn't seem to have spoken to much.)

Yikumi's voice is also great, there was only this strange feeling, when I was watching PoT right after Nabari.

I agree with Rie Kumigimiya. Most of her female characters become Tsundere, which is annoying at some point. I really dislike her as Hotaru in Gakuen Alice and Shana in Shakugan no Shana. But her male voice is just awesome. She completes Miharu's character.

Actually... Except Miharu an Al... Are there any more? I would like to hear more of it, but I have yet to find some...

I agree. Her Yoite-voice is sort of rare.
Jomy in Terra e sounds more or less like Jing of King of Bandit Jing and Francis/Keith in Ashita no Nadja. A little... boyish?
In Mushiuta she spoke a female moster. Well there it was... crazily evil...?

I can't remerber her as Eiri in Cossete well anymore. (Need to rewatch it soon...), but as far as I remember his voice was somewhere about the same as in Terra. Through a little bit more gloomy.

I hope we'll get more of her Yoite-like voice and that this is not a one in a time voice... Like Risa Mizuno's Lia, which never appeared again since Chevalier...
