My semi-serious theory is that Cas disapproved of Sam's decision to keep away from Dean and only when they finally got together, he answered. He is a Dean&Sam gen OTPer.

This season, though, looks so much like fanfic (bad fanfic or good fanfic we'll have to wait and see). We have: long lost relatives, character faking their death, kid!fic, PROFOUND BOND, etc, etc, because you're a spoiler!phobe.
