... I miss the Torchwood intro, like, so much. The first time I ever watched Torchwood was the first episode of Series 2. I was bored, and supposed to be revising. I switched on my TV - it was a dinosaur model, and could pick up channels 1, 3, 4, some weird foreign-language thing that no other TV could pick up, and whatever was on downstairs - and there was a blowfish, driving a sportscar.
"Bloody Torchwood," an old woman said, shaking her head as a black SUV screeched past. At that moment, I was hooked - the not-so-secret secret agents, who drove through the streets of Cardiff with their name in neon yellow on their car. Gwen was amazing (my Gwen-hate comes and goes. Sometimes she is amazing, other times I cannot stand her. In the first few episodes I saw, she was my favourite [save for Jack]). Owen was super snarky. Tosh was the geek. Ianto was... well, he was okay (he became my favourite character in episode 3 of series 2). And Captain Jack. He was the super hero. Immortal, good looking, charming.
Torchwood: outside the government, beyond the police. Fighting for the future on behalf of the human race. The 21st century is when everything changes. And Torchwood is ready.
That opening narration was my favourite quote. I photoshopped it onto a picture for my desktop background; I wrote it into borders on my work. And the thing that bugs me most about the New Torchwood is... well, the lack of Tosh and Owen and Ianto I can deal with. The lack of jokes is acceptable. But it's the opening narration. Without it, it's not Torchwood.
However, I have to say. The second episode of Miracle Day was amazing. I started watching it and thought, 'okay, I can deal with this. It's only an hour...'
By the end, I was half an inch from the computer screen, almost screaming because it's not Thursday yet and I need to know what happens. I love it. I love the American characters (especially Rex and Dr Juarez and the doctor guy in the plaid shirt who is rather attractive in a Zac Efron-y way). I love Jack and Gwen (but not JackandGwen, because ew. Poor Rhys). I love the air stewards even though they probably won't be appearing again. I love-to-hate some of the other characters, and I am very much intrigued by the red-headed PR woman (is there some kind of very obvious symbolism going on? All in red = devil/evil? Because RTD, you may be going up in my estimation again, but if you pull some dull crap like that, I will be dissappointed).
Do I have any idea what is going on yet? No. Do I think that the episode could have been condensed into one, easy-to-manage episode? Undecided. Am I enjoying the series so far? Actually, yes.
Also, Esther Drummond. Does she have some kind of connection to Wester Drumlins? Oh god I hope so....
