So I just realized most of my posts have been friends-only, so...sorry if you're not on the friends list! Means you've got to get lj, hah.
Summary of my life so far, and a bit of what's happened this summer:
Graduated from Stanford, it was pretty much time for me to go, but I def appreciate the experience.
Going to grad school in bioengineering at UMD, hoping for a PhD.
Living in an apartment in Friendship Heights for the next ? years. Mostly moved in, getting some stuff delivered tomorrow. Moving in was actually a lot less painful that I thought it'd be, mostly because my grandparents and my cousins on my Dad's side came and helped out. Like, a lot (Adam and Mark are pretty freaking strong). I offered to help them in the future any time they needed but uh, I don't know what I can offer. Certainly not physical labor...knitted hats? Cookies? Circuit building?
I said I was going to travel this summer, but...yeah. The end of July pretty much chopped my summer into 2 awkward halves, what with Heather's wedding (yay!), plus I decided to go to a cell mechanics workshop at UIUC after that. But it's giving me an excuse to pop up to Detroit and visit Harry as he gets settled in. Yay :)
I'm excited about having my own place, at little nervous that I'll get lonely. But I'm sure that'll wear off once I have work to do. It was only hitting me when I was arranging furniture by myself last week and it was *so* quiet. In a dorm you get the reassuring background noise of your hallmates fooling around in the halls, your neighbors watching a movie, or the people outside who are inexplicably drunk on a Monday night. But again, I'll have loads of work probably, and will be making friends at school and hopefully in the apartment building.
I'm sorry I haven't really been commenting on people's journals recently; I've been reading them and feeling for y'all! I'm just. Lazy?
Plus...
Um, started and finished it today (not counting that I read the end the night I got it...I just need to know these things! Especially with books over 400 pages). Wasn't impressed, and wouldn't be even if I hadn't read the end first. I mean, it does suck you in. But I'm not saying it should be a classic like the Washington Post reviewer seemed to think. Entertaining, but not compelling. Kind of a bummer, since there was all that hype. I even went to a midnight release party, gasp!
EDIT:
Here's the review, which I just read again.
Um, "dizzying labyrinth of betrayals and counterplots"? "An instant classic"? Wow. I didn't think it was any of those things, but that's just the Post. Sometimes I agree, and other times... I personally found the plot of POTC3 to be a 'dizzying labyrinth of betrayals and counterplots' (of course I felt that movie was a giant poop sandwich, but that's another story). Maybe HP7 could be dizzying to kids? I dunno, I'm just going to wait and see what other people think...before I possibly piss off more people :)
There, see? No spoilers! :)
So that's my life...now you know. And knowing is half the battle. Though I'm not sure this kind of knowledge counts. You may want the last few minutes of your life back, huh.
