This says a lot about my childhood.

Until I was about six, I thought:

A guilt trip was something grownups actually took because they were mad at someone. It lasted all weekend and was always to someplace that you really wanted to go. But you didn't get to. Because you were bad ( Read more... )

wtf, funny

When I was a young teenager, I was very confused about the word adultery. Because I first came across it when sitting down and reading the Bible (I really have no idea how I didn't come across it until then, but it probably makes more sense when you consider I was a very, very sheltered homeschooled kid) and it was connected with sex, my brain somehow decided that it referred to doing "adult" things like sex and masturbation. So I thought I was going to Hell for masturbating. Oy.

I always used to think adultery was a fancy word for rape. Because apparently that's what eventually-polyamorous, marriage-optional me thought of as a child when given the vague definition "sex that you're not supposed to have."

The confirmation class in which we discussed the Ten Commandments was something of a letdown for me.

LMAO... okay now I feel relieved that I'm not the only one with a fucked up childhood ;) sometimes I really wonder about the concepts I got. Like, the other one I'm not sure where was that my young brain (we're talking 10 or 11) decided that God wasn't an idiot and would "recycle" aborted fetuses... so I was very, very confused at people saying that abortion sent baby's souls to hell, or even heaven, because, why wouldn't God just send the soul to a new body? It is probably no wonder that I ended up pagan.

(and yes, poly here too... though I did get married because, benefits, plus, we didn't want my partner's NUTJOB family to have the power to make medical decisions in case of emergency. I would trust mine, but I wouldn't trust his as far as I could throw them)

I believed that one, about the recycling souls, right up until I became a more-or-less atheist.

I am half-convinced that I am the male twins my mother miscarried. It would explain SO MUCH.

Hee, I hadn't run into anyone else who thought of that. Usually I get the "huh-wha?" look ;)

Man, if "DO NOT RAPE" had been in the ten commandments, straight-up in bold type, instead of "DO NOT COMMIT CRIMES AGAINST THE HUMAN PROPERTY OF OTHERS" or "DO NOT GO SEXING PEOPLE UP IF YOU ARE NOT MARRIED TO THEM," things might be so different.
