Thing I Made Thursday #16: You Are My Sunshine Egyptian Cobra Box!

Mar 28, 2012 19:17

I painted this ages ago so it's probably cheating a little to present it for TIMT, but I like having stuff to show you, and the AC box won't be lined for another day or two.

It's also for sale over on Etsy!

I had so much fun writing the copy for this one:

"Entek Hetchetch-tu" translates to "Thou Art My Sunshine," and with its cheerful color scheme and super-cute baby winged cobra, this box looks like something out of an Egyptian princess' sun-drenched bedroom.

The winged cobra, symbol of Uadjet, patron goddess of Lower Egypt, spreads her little wings on the top, and khepera beetles roll along all four sides. The inside is the same silky gold as the exterior accents.

Measured across the lid, this box is 5" x 5", it's 3.5" high, and the interior measures 4.5" x 4.5" x 2", enough to hold most any small treasure. The snake on top may look cute, but don't let that fool you. She's fully armed, and ready to protect the royal jewels. Or your embalming resins and spices. Organ storage is not recommended. Comes with an afterlifetime guarantee that you will always think it is cute as hell.

Admit it. You have always wanted dancing dung beetles in your bedroom.

Note: I did use this to store incense cones for, like, a really long time, so it smells . . . authentic. Not baby cobra authentic -- they smell like maple sugar -- but authentically . . . like a box that was used to hold incense?
