I actually do have a completely plausible reason within the pulp setting that our badass female pirate captain could be a sexy, sexy devil woman. Red skin, cute horns, lovely hocks, pretty pasterns, and cloven hooves. And a tail. I have kind of a thing for chicks with hooves and have always wanted to write for one. In a setting with lightning guns, reanimated hands, giant robot squids, and time-traveling castles, I really don't think a devil-girl homonculus would be too weird to pass.
However, when I am in full porny pulp sci-fantasy form, I can't see the sharks for the cheese, so I don't always know when I've jumped them.
