Gaming - The Baron, Wrap

Finished another character tonight. Baron Leander. I've decided I'm going to keep track of that, because I've found it's actually a pretty reliable way to improve my time sense, which is shit. "Who was I playing ( Read more... )

I really, really liked him so I'm kind of bummed, but I know there'll be more, so . . . I will cope.

I never did tell you about the pretty darn cool thing he pulled off. I will tell you later when you get home since I was going to ask you to call me anyhow.

This is interesting. I'll have to try something like this with all the random people wandering around in my head that I've put off for more than half a year...

Heh. Maybe you should intro your characters to your pack (well, the visualization of it, anyway)... or would Thane and Grond not like all the human interactions.

I don't write about it much because it's . . . oddly uncomfortable. But it's a part of my life I care about a LOT, and in retrospect it seems odd I don't talk about it more.

The pack don't have solid personalities like that. Though there are a couple of werewolf packs in there he would probably get along with just fine. I have some cross-casting going on there that would make things weird, though.

The Baron shall return. A lot of times characters are "done" because there is noplace emotionally for them to go after the adventure is over. When the character has resolved all their issues and has finished their arc, then playing more is pretty pointless. But I designed this as an episode, kind of a re-origin story. The Baron is the tired-old-gunslinger-who-will-only-draw-when-he-must, or he was. This adventure was supposed to reawaken him, and now that he's back in form, there's a whole lot of stuff he can do. We'll take a break and get right back to him. I like a lot of his NPCs.

Oh, yeah. It's not good to play a character past their arc. Doesn't work out well, frustrates everyone. But I miss some people, and while that usually passes pretty quickly, sometimes it lingers for a long, long time. Judas bothered me for well over a year, maybe two.

Baron's still very much only-draw-when-he-must because that sort of thing is risky, but that doesn't change how he feels about it, which is full of little floaty hearts and kitten-bounce, and sometimes he really, really wishes he had someone along for the "TELL ME YOU SAW THAT!" moments.

He does usually prefer to resolve stuff without killing people. He felt kind of bad about the necessity for arranging an accident for Devora's husband. He didn't feel bad about killing the guy, but he did feel bad about causing his mistress pain, and having to lie to her.

I was going to say that I really like reading gaming posts, but then I realized that I really like reading gaming posts by good writers with intriguing ideas. The Baron sounds like fun.

Yeah, I love reading gaming posts written by articulate and insightful people, too, But why shouldn't we? It's a creative process, collaborative storytelling. Of course it's interesting if it's being done right. Just like reading about someone's writing process can be really interesting if it's done right.

I think people have a lot of weird perceptions about what tabletop RPG-ing is like, and I wish they didn't.

He was fun. I had a dream about him last night.

I like hearing about interesting things people have done. I like reading stories in which interesting and potentially badass things happen. Gaming posts, written well, combine the two in a flaming maelstrom of awesome.

If I ever do RPGing, I will probably be incredibly annoying, trying to capture a good recap post with no experience or planning.
