A friend of a friend's mom rescued a kitten the other day. Here's the story.
I was driving down the road and someone in a truck ahead of me threw a kitten out the window!
I thought it was a piece of trash - then I saw the tail!
She wasn't moving- I got her out off the road - her eyes and nose were glued shut with mucus and she had a hole in her neck. I raced her to the vet - even the vet was crying!
But she's going to be ok . . . I have named her Leeloo. She is only about 4 weeks old and very teeny and thin.
Her collar bone is broken and she has a respiratory infection but she'll be fine.
I am picking her up at the vet's tomorrow and will have to feed her with a syringe, as she is too weak to eat.
I called the vet clinic (the Atlantic Animal Hospital in Galloway NJ) and confirmed the story and the condition of Leeloo, who was released this morning in good shape but had to go home with antibiotics, and will have to be syringe fed until she can eat on her own. The respiratory infection has left her unable to smell her food, so she's going to need a little help for a while. She will be taken care of, but like a lot of us, Leeloo's Mom is not exactly rolling in it, and small kittens, even when they aren't in dire condition, can rack up steep vet bills.
The whole story is here. sinistersundown is taking donations to cover costs. If you wanted to pop over there and chuck in even just five or ten dollars, that would make a huge dent in Leeloo's vet bills.
We have a happy ending in place, here. The kitten will be okay, even though some people are right fucking bastards, but I'd like that happy ending to not come with a high price tag for the good woman who rescued her.
I will be getting pictures later on, I hope, so stay tuned! I hear she's a teeny little calico. My favorite flavor!
EDIT: Donations are closed, thank you all for being such wonderful, wonderful people!
