Urgent Action Needed.

I'm really tired of making this post.

For all y'all who thought, "Well, I'll do something when it becomes official," it has become official, and it is time to get off your fucking ass:

The Bush administration officially proposes conscience rule for doctors who don't want to do their fucking jobs. This does not just apply to doctors -- surgeons, ( Read more... )

Anyone could walk away at any time from a woman who is simply trying to live her life the way she thinks most wise.

And therein lies the crux of the issue. They don't want women to be the ones making decisions about how to lives their lives.

I swear, sometimes I get the feeling that they love the prospect of women living in abject terror of having sex, any sex, at all, any time, anywhere, with any man, because we won't have access to abortion OR any kind of contraceptive if these anti-choice fanatics have their way.

I also note they love to play things down don't they?

""Nothing in the new regulation in any way changes a patient's right to any legal procedure," he said, noting that a patient could go to another provider."

Yes! It's just like the UK where we can simply go to another doctor! Lying sacks of shit.

Yep. It works just fine if you live in London where there are hundreds of doctors within easy travel range. Not so good if you live hundreds of miles from any alternative.

You know that birth control fails, right? That there is no such thing as a failproof contraceptive?

All the contraceptive in the world won't help a rape victim.

Many men refuse to wear condoms. Many men refuse to get vasectomies. There are quite a few men who believe that contraception is the woman's responsibility, not theirs.

Sometimes the passion of the moment overrules the best thought out plans.

Sometimes even with proper use of contraceptives, that 1% chance of pregnancy happens.

Sometimes contraceptives are counter-acted by something. Not all women are aware, for instance, that antacid can neutralize the pill.

Not every woman's insurance will cover contraceptives.

I'm not going to beat around the bush here--you're just flat-out wrong. ANY time a restriction of any sort is made on abortion, women's rights are restricted as well. I'll repeat it, just so we're clear on this: restricting abortion restricts women's rights. Period.

It is ridiculous to say that abortion is not birth control. Of course it's birth ( ... )

I didn't cover that because the asshole who posted the original comment is one of those "health/rape only" types. Because apparently you only "deserve" to get an abortion if you've been brutalized or your life is imminent danger. The rest of us are just a bunch of irresponsible whores.

As a friend of mine is the proud daughter of a five year old girl who was conceived while her mother was on the pill, I must wholeheartedly agree with this comment. The fact that she chose to bring the child to term isn't the point, the point is, she was on birth control and it failed.

Why people seek to blame the people using contraceptives for the fact that they're not 100% effective never fails to baffle and gall me. (edited to use a better term)

Very important, clearly stated comment, thank you for posting it.
