So, Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt still doesn't want to acknowledge that
denying women access to birth control and abortion based on "conscience" is a morally reprehensible act. His first clarification was little better. He doesn't plan on redefining contraception as abortion, but he does plan on letting any dumbfuck with an axe to grind deny women necessary health care based on nothing more than a hunch about what happens when you die. Someone else's moral beliefs should not dictate my rights, but nor should they limit my ability to exercise them.
Go leave him a comment telling him he missed the point yet again. Tell him about how hard it is to find good doctors in small towns or when you have shitty insurance. Tell him about what it's like to be denied birth control, abortion, or contraception. Or better yet, write him a fucking letter.

No, I'm not shutting up about this. Because I am not seeing a whole lot of names I recognize there in the comments.
This is not about preserving a woman's "right" to anything. It's about preserving a woman's ability to functionally obtain medical care in the real world, and not the idealized and rarified world in which men like this think all women live. This is a much more insidious attack than direct assault on laws protecting abortion, but combined with everything else that is wrong with our education and medical systems, it is no less destructive.
Legal protection of a right does not mean that exercise of that right is a simple thing. Guys like this should not be allowed to make it any harder.
Go fucking tell him so.
