I went into my local pharmacy recently. There is a discreetly displayed sign: "This pharmacy will dispense Plan B. You must agree to a consultation with the duty pharmacist first."

I love New Zealand.

Haha, I love NZ too. My local pharmacy will dispense Plan B without a prescription too. And it's on the front door, so not even discreet. Mwahahah.

Is there anything I can do from outside the US that will be effective in any way?

Heh. Email someone without telling them you're not from here? Or at least spread the word around.

*SMOOCH*

That's what I said in my email to them. Any funds, time, and energy spent on this proposal would be better spent in encouraging (hell FUNDING) job retraining for these individuals in a field more suited to their conscience. Say the priesthood, or book-keeping, or bee-keeping.

This whole thing has concerned me enough that I've made an appointment with the one and only doc in this town who performs sterilizations; he doesn't require referrals or prior approval from insurance agencies (and I had a *fantastic* conversation with our insurance rep about all this, who feels exactly the same way I do), but honestly, the chances of him letting me go through with it are slim to none. My next step is to go out of state... how sad is that?

This shit SCARES me. Seriously.
