Dilemmas, Dilemmas.

My dad is a font of fatherly wisdom.

When I was a teenager, we were at a rock and mineral show, and someone there had a genuine Smilodon skull. For reasons that currently escape me, they were asking some ridiculously low sum of money for it. An arm, as opposed to an arm and a leg ( Read more... )

For me, when faced with these kind of decisions, I ask myself: "What will I regret more?".

So for you, what will you regret more "I just spend a huge amount on money on a bone!" or "I let that perfect completion of my collection get away...".

I think you should go for it.

The thing that is bothering me most is that I almost without a doubt will have another shot at this, even if it takes me another five years of looking.

And for the price of this skull, I could get . . . oh, jeez . . . I could buy a wolverine AND another wolf, or a Great Dane, or a replica dire wolf, or. . . .

Those will always be there, though. Hard to find, yes, and not consistently in stock, but possible to obtain with minimal fuss and bother.

Ah, that is a slightly different angle. I've chanced situations like this before, and lost, because I knew the item wasn't going to come again at a time I could avail of it.

I think I know what I'd choose, but I'm not the one with the choice at the moment. Good luck with your decision.

*lol* @ icon

You've put your finger on another truth: I DO have the money NOW. I may get another shot, but that may not coincide with money.

I may get another shot, but that may not coincide with money.

Then go for it NOW. You'll want it whether or not you buy it, and from the sounds of it, you will keep wanting it until you have it. You can fix that by having it now! Why wait to fulfill your desires, when you're capable right now? Buying it seems like a sound and wise decision to me.

I love this icon. It's perfect for those moments you have to just throw yourself in and let go of your doubts.

Tempting as that is, and thank you!, I do have it. I just feel . . . so indulgent.

"It's better to regret something you've done than something you haven't."

Boy, ain't that the truth!

That attitude has gotten me into no small amount of trouble, but the good things it has led me into far outweigh the bad. Like, by a factor of a hundred to one.

Exactly so. Since I've started asking myself that question, when faced with action vs non-action, I've taken action as often as circumstances allow. It gets more difficult when it comes to action vs action though :)
