I have a small mountain of links in my "to post" file, and I want to clear some of them out. First and foremost, I'd like to direct your attention to
this post in
news about LJ's new Explore Area.
Let's be honest: There are times when you've updated your own journal, read all of your friends' posts, visited all your favorite communities, but are still looking for something more. It's not that you don't love the stuff already on your radar, but you want to branch outside of your comfort zone and find content that is not only new, but that actually appeals to you. We are hoping our new explore area will help you do just that. Much like how your morning paper is conveniently organized into sections so that you know exactly what to grab if you want to find out about world news versus your local sports teams, we've created six relevant areas of interest for you to explore: Culture, Entertainment, Life, Music, News & Politics and Technology.
In order to make sure each area has great content, recent public posts are analyzed electronically and then placed into the areas where they best fit, if there is indeed such an area. (Not all entries will necessarily appear in an explore area.) The feed of posts is updated constantly, so you can refresh the page to see new entries as they are posted. In some areas, you will also see featured content that the LiveJournal staff found to be timely, interesting, or well-written. As of today, we have featured content picked by the staff in both Entertainment and News & Politics, with more featured content to come.
This is an opt-out feature, not opt-in. Private and friends-only entries are automatically excluded, but if you wish your entire journal to be excluded by default, you must go to the
viewing options page and click the box next to "Explore Area Exclusion" under "Additional privacy options."
I'm linking this because a lot of you, for whatever reason, don't subscribe to
news, and won't have seen the update. In case I need to say this, it's really a good idea to read that community, because it's often the only source for updates on LJ fuckery.
Personally, I am not bothered by the Explore Area, and I think the idea is neat. I'm just a bit chafed that it's opt-out, and not opt-in, and I think everyone should take a moment to make sure their settings are where they would prefer them to be.

theferrett, somewhat belatedly,
Rose & Camellia, a flash-based combat game:
"Newly wed to Shunsuke, eldest son of the historied Tsubakikoji family, Reiko suffers the loss of her husband the very next day. Under the cruel and unceasing mockery of the aristocrats, Reiko's common-born blood sets to boil. Clutching the rose Shunsuke gave her to her bosom, Reiko issues a defiant challenge to the house. "I am the widow of the eldest son of the Tsubakikoji family. This house is mine!" ...This is the elegant art of feminine conflict."
This is the elegant art of the BITCHSLAP.
I am not sure how to feel about it, but I know I played it for about 20 minutes, and was laughing my ass off the entire time.
Moving on.

This is a very sexy French kiss video. Two boys? A boy and a girl? Who the fuck cares? Might want to turn the sound off, though. It's better without whatever sound they've got going on in the background.

A baby Scottish wildcat. Or, really, a wildkitten. It's so unbelievably adorable. These little guys are very rare, so it's sort of a big deal to have a baby one around.
You have probably all seen
the LOLcat Bible (and if not, you can click the link and amuse yourself for hours). But have you seen
the Wiccan Rede in lolcat? In the Weird Shit files:
scientists discover a new mammal - a giant elephant shrew. Seriously hilarious-looking, and very cute.
As a public service to all you pervs and iconeers out there, a link with tips on
how to capture images from Windows Media Player. It suggests a variety of approaches beyond the usual "Prt Scrn" button." They worked for me, so I thought I'd pass the link along.
And now, back to you!
