First up, big, huge, smacky kitty kisses for bifemmefatale, kittykiya, and one person whose LJ handle I am not sticking to the name* because I am BAD AT THAT

"There is also a strong possibility that I will remember your pet's name, but not yours. Please, someone tell me I am not alone!"
You are not alone! I have neighbors that I have known for about ten years... Their dog passed away about five years ago, but I still refer to them as "Dusty's Mommy and Daddy'!
The woman across the street is "Duke's mom" even though he died a while back.
When I think about it, it's not that people are less memorable than pets; it's that pets have names that reflect who they are much more often than people do. I mean, a friend has a corgi named Underfoot. How perfect is that? Tell me when was the last time you met a person with a name that great?
My brother had a pair of friends on college known as "Kan-Dan" and "Tran-Dan" because one was from Kansas and one was a transfer student. Unfortunately for the second, this sometimes got shortened to "Kanny" and "Tranny."
On a kinda ironic note about pet names both "dusty" and "duke" were names of baby kitties of mine this year who unfortunatly didn't make it to adulthood. Neither did Fuzz. Ash and the twins are alive and well and fat.
I still to this day do not remember the names of my neighbors when I was growing up but I know their dog was Sasha and the cat was Demon. It is strange in away... except to those who prefer animal company to human.

This is the crap you only ever do to FRIENDS.

What's even funnier is Ben hadn't bothered to explain this to us, so when she met TranDan, my mom was expecting a Vietnamese kid.

That's a good one! At one point I knew so many Chrises that they outnumbered the not-Chrises.

I can still remember the names of most of the pets in the neighborhood where I grew up, and none of the names of the owners!
