BPAL Scent Reviews V

Jan 15, 2006 19:47

Round five of the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab reviews. I'm not even close to working through my backlog of already-written reviews, let alone the box of imps I'm hoarding.

First, a word about the allure of perfume, and the peculiar problems posed by scent.

Philosophical ramblings on language, senses, and gratification. )

I'm still always floored that I can smell wooden shelves, a minute trace of dust, and the scent of leather books having warmed in the sunshine, but that's PRECISELY how Miskatonic U smells under the caramel/toffee scent.

I'm with you, I don't know HOW Beth does it, but she does.

Have you considered joining BPALanonymous on LJ and posting your reviews there? There is an Addict of the Month contest there for reviews, and you stand to 'win' more goodies if they like your writing.

Heh. I'm considering it! I need to start posting reviews on the forum boards, too, just because.

Beth is just a genius. I have no idea how she does what she does, but it's incredible. True artistry, because she's not always just aiming for flashy and popular, and some of what she does is very subtle. Amazing.

I'm convinced that's why the company is named Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs. Beth got a-hold of John Dee's stillroom book, apparently. And she borrowed a few recipes from Roger Bacon, Albertus Magnus, and Nicholas Flamel while she was at it. ;)

If you're not on it, you need to go to alchemylab and check out the post by someone who went to this weekend's Will Call and took photos of Beth...and they discussed various OTHER scents like "Trouser Snake"...(laughs)

"Trouser Snake"? Hell, I'd buy that one just for the name! :D
