BPAL Scent Reviews V

Round five of the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab reviews. I'm not even close to working through my backlog of already-written reviews, let alone the box of imps I'm hoarding.

First, a word about the allure of perfume, and the peculiar problems posed by scent.

Philosophical ramblings on language, senses, and gratification. )

I don't like smelling food-y, but I like the smell of food itself, which is frustrating when I get hold of a very foody perfume. I've often considered taking up coffee as a habit just because I love the smell of it. The taste is horrid, but the aroma is so pleasant!

Cheap coffee smells okay and is, as I've said, cheap. You should just take to making coffee in the morning, pouring it into a cup, smelling it, warming your hands on the sides of the mug and then tossing it when it gets cold. I think I might do that too. I hate the taste of coffee, but I like the smells and rituals associated with it. I even like MAKING it. But I feel the same way about a good black tea (plus I like how those taste).

Coffee-and-cream scented candles is the way I go about that, being averse to the actual taste of coffee myself. (And I'm such a lazy bint I can't be bothered to actually, you know, go to a coffee shop to write.) Ah, well.

Your reviews make me die. DIE. I am so jealous of the way you've mastered the art of making us see the scents as well as smell them. If we have a hard handle on describing scents, you certainly make it seem a lot less so. Now I really, really wish my imps were here.

It's still a daunting task, and a very subjective one. But it's a lot of fun, as I'm sure you'll discover when you get your stuff!
