Tonight was a normal Doylestown hangout gone horribly RIGHT. Started out with me treating for dinner at Cafe Alessio to compensate for all the mooching I've been doing. Let me assure you, all debts are now settled. After that was the usual jaz - doing laps, running into people, having fun. There was an encounter with an ex-girlfriend, but certainly not awkward enough to put a damper on the fun. Dann and Clair decided to hand out some flyers they'd made the previous day done in the form of want-ads for girlfriends (don't worry, I think it's mostly a joke), and people enjoyed those. We were on our way out of town around 10:30 when Clair received a response from a girl claiming to be sitting in Starbucks with a group of international aux pairs. "Of course," we thought, "this must be a prank." Nevertheless, intrigued by the authentic-sounding accents and interested to see who might perpetrate such a horrible prank on a couple of sincere, well-meaning guys, we turned around and made our way to the SB's. Imagine our surprise when it turned out to actually BE a group of international aux pairs, all female, and several attractive. Yeah, that's what I said.
We chatted them up for quite a while, pretty successfully. In any other company, it might've been awkward, but since Dann and Clair basically lack the ability to detect social weirdness, everything actually went smoothly. I think I impressed the South African girl (clearly the leader, I should point out) with my knowledge of Ladysmith, but on the other hand they pretty much failed to get all my jokes requiring english vocabulary, which is all my jokes. Dann and Clair had better luck with humor, and I think our overall impression on them was good. Even if it wasn't, I imagine that when you're away from home, taking care of somebody else's kids for ten hours a day at $3 per hour and don't know anybody in the country, hanging out with us starts to sound like a pretty good idea. Score!
*worst pun I've ever made, bar none.
