Or am I just flattering myself? :-)
The last couple of weeks have been very strange and instead of getting my various thoughts and contemplations transferred onto lj, I have been frantically scribbling (or rather tapping) away at a couple of ‘drafts’(for want of a better word) on
pellegrina and my ambitious current writing project.
I have just sent the second one of these off to Pellegrina with some trepidation. It’s funny how I simultaneously manage to have a fairly high opinion of my own writing and a complete fear of showing it to people… Pellegrina is my ‘critical friend’ in such circumstances, and once she has given me feedback on my scribblings, I usually manage to work up enough in the way of guts to let other people take a look. Fortunately, Pellegrina gave me some very flattering feedback on the first of the two drafts - describing it as having a ‘sparse and tense’ style. I’m very pleased with that [blushes].
Yesterday, I finally received the bumph from the University of Wolverhampton, which included a very-small-print copy of their staff-handbook, and the scariest Occupational Health Questionnaire I have ever had to fill in! It was the question about whether or not it had been twelve months since I’d last been to the dentist that particularly got me. At the end of going through most of the stuff, I had a whole load of questions I needed to ask them, about certificates and relocation and so on. It turns out that we should be eligible to apply for their relocation package and personnel at Wolves are sticking some details for me in the post.
I also spoke to the leader of my Teaching and Learning in HE course today, to ask her for some advice about how to try and get my course finished, despite the fact that I will be changing jobs in the middle of doing my course. She’s really willing to help me make it as easy as possible to get it all sorted out. I’ll need to speak to Wolves about whether or not they’d be willing to give me some time off to finish the course with my current college. I don’t think they’ll object: they would want me to do their version of the course either way, and given that I am about two thirds of the way through it now, I can’t imagine that they’d prefer to make me start from scratch over releasing me for a couple of days in the run-up to Christmas when the course I am currently on will finish. But I’ll talk to them about it.
