lots of stuff

SAIC picnic with my brother and his family was a blast. The picnic was at six flags America and as I mentioned before, they had booze all over the park and this time, free soft drinks too. It was fairly hot that day (hot sun, otherwise not that bad actually) but we rode a bunch of roller coasters, swam in the wave pool among other watery fun. My nephew seemed like he had a lot of fun. Something rather nifty happened before we even arrived at six flags. Since I was meeting my brother at the park, we needed to find some place to meet up before entering since he had my ticket and i wouldn’t be able to get in the park without it (not even park either). So, we started googling and looking for some place to meet. I went up on google maps and brought up the satellite image of the park. I started looking around and saw what i thought looked like your typical shopping center. We agreed to meet at a building near the main road in front of the shopping center. We joked that it looked like a food lion shopping center and that we would be meeting at a mcdees. Well, it turns out we were right on both accounts. This may not seem all that exciting, and maybe it isn't, but I just thought it was cool. Neither of us knew the area and thanks to some satellite pics, we were able to choose a place to meet. Good stuff!

Last weekend was my cousin BethAnne's wedding. She got married in Norfolk which is right near where I grew up. Actually, before finding the church, we decided to drive past the place we used to live and around the neighborhood. Well, the house was trashed. Yard was mostly weeds, cars were parked all over the place, and they had those stupid yard decorations. Oh well, lots of good memories growing up there. Just sad to see someone treating the place I grew up in so badly.

The wedding was very nice though it was kinda weird; she is protestant and her husband is catholic, so they got married in a Methodist church with both a protestant preacher and a catholic priest doing the ceremony. They really love each other and make a great couple. The reception was pretty cool too. They had all the standard traditions of throwing this at a group of flailing girls and taking that off a certain leg, etc.

My whole immediate family rode down to the wedding and my parents setup two rooms at a hotel on VA Beach. So, we left the reception and went to the beach. We arrived at the hotel after nightfall and went out to walk on the beach. Beach water was awesome. Water was luke warm and the weather was great. The next day, we went back out on the beach. We got to introduce the beach to my brother's twins. They are almost 11 months old. Mathew hates water and the beach really freaked him out. If you stopped holding him, he would start screaming, but as long as you held him, he was cool, just very apprehensive. You take a baby that hates water and sit him at the edge of the Atlantic ocean. riiiiight. Kristen loves water and loved the beach. She had a blast with that weird sand stuff between her toes. Good times.

This has been a fairly eventful week. Working on several projects at work, one of which is fairly big and taking a lot of time, however, I’m getting near completion. I also found out I might actually be going to China!!!! Craziness. We have been doing a lot of stuff internationally and since I’m single and have no real ties, I’m a perfect candidate to go on long trips. So, I started research and getting things squared away to get a passport and visa. I don't when I’m going, but it probably will be in the next month or two. I'm a tad apprehensive about it. Not exactly the #1 choice of countries I would have picked to be my first excursion out of America, but oh well. Adventures to be had I’m sure.

Two things have been planned so far for October. Octoberfest at Busch Gardens and Ren Fair up here. Excited about both. I've never been to a ren fair, but I've been to an octoberfest before and it was a lot of fun. The whole theme park is transformed for halloween throughout the month of october. Smoke machines galore. They even turn the regular train going around the park into an attraction. Good stuff. Anyone that wants is invited to both events. Just let me or Brad know.

Well, I’ll close up shop.
