This month, our country managers flew in from all over the world. We, at our home office always look forward to December although it's the busiest time of the year. With training sessions and get-togethers, squeezed in between back to back meetings and seminars, the first two weeks of the month is always real crazy. I still find it hard to believe that I've made friends with so many people from all corners of our globe. It's nice to catch up with each other's lives but there's never enough one on one time available with many of them as you'd like to have.
I met our new country manager for Ireland, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again in March when I do my program there. I'll be living in a castle for almost two weeks and I'll be there for Saint Patrick's Day! My job will be helping with the upkeep of the castle - That's going to be really fun, but ugh - still nearly 3 months away!
My friend that's almost 100 years old had a stroke two weeks ago so I have been spending as much time as I can visiting her and making sure she's doing okay. At first I was so worried that it would kill her, but she's been recovering slowly - although she'll never be completely back to normal. We actually make a good match, her and I. She loves to tell me about how things were when she was younger - and I love listening to her stories and vivid descriptions of local hotspots that are no more. Her husband has been dead for many years, but when she talks about him, it's as though we both go back in time. And when I first get there she looks up and smiles at me so warmly and it makes me feel so good - like I'm really important or something... . . It's a nice feeling.
Today is Chanukah - my first one as a "True Jew!" My weekend is jam-packed and still no holiday presents have been shopped for and bought. Not in a panic yet, but I'm sure it's around the corner!!
