CHARACTER
» Name: Byakuran
» Fandom: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

» Gender: Male
» Age: Mid-late twenties
» Orientation:
Asexual. Way asexual. He sees people as objects and life as a game and he doesn't show any sort of attraction, romantic or sexual, toward anyone in canon. He's probably capable of picking up on aesthetic beauty, but only in the same sense as a normal person would find a painting or a statue (or a flower!) aesthetically pleasing. Any kind of romantic or emotional connection ain't happening (and if he acts like it is, he's lying to you).
If forced to have sex, well, Byakuran is an opportunist. He's a man of no morals and things like honor and loyalty have no hold on him. Nor do things like shame -- he has no sense of "lowering himself" by doing any of the things he does (murder, torture, blackmail, you know the drill). Men, women, whoever, whatever is most efficient and gets this problem out of the way will do. The point is that there is a problem and he is going to solve it. As long as it gets solved, he doesn't care how.
This isn't to say that he's a rapist. Not that he has anything against the idea itself, but things like that take more effort and cause more trouble than they're worth. And besides, there are plenty of easier ways. That's the kind of person he is -- rape isn't "bad," it's "usually not practical." He's efficient and utilitarian, ok?
» Personality:
The universe is a game and Byakuran is a winner. That's really all there is to it. He's been called cruel and sadistic and outright evil, but he isn't -- or at least not that last one. To be "evil," one has to delight in causing evil for the sake of evil, and Byakuran isn't like that. Probably because he doesn't completely grasp the concepts of "good" and "evil" to begin with -- when you have all the knowledge and experience of infinite lifetimes, things like humanity and souls and feelings and whatnot just start to not matter. Because everything, everything is trivial in the end, you see? That best friend forever whose death you're mourning now will only be a distant distant memory in 20 years -- the joy you get from winning the lottery is nice enough but just a drop in the bucket of time -- he knows it, he's seen it, he's lived it a million times over.
Humanity is so self-obsessed, sometimes. Newsflash: you're not that important.
Oh, he's not so important, either. He's just another player, just another flash in the pan -- he knows that, too. Oh, he knows. But since he knows it, he's going to try to change that, see -- he's going to become more than a player. He's going to become the winner. Grab up all the power he can and become the one making the rules of the game. Why, you ask? Why not? What's the point of anything in the long run? Might as well do something else with his time instead of burning out and fading away like everyone else, thinking they matter. At least this way he'll be entertained.
And if someone is going to rule the universe, Byakuran can't think of anyone better than himself.
Because he is a damned good boss, if he says so himself. Maybe not a "good person," (though again, not an evil one) but as a boss, he's damned successful. Efficient, vicious, ruthless, organized, practical -- he keeps a massive number of people in line and he gets what he wants by any means possible. There's no low he won't sink to -- but he knows that the victors write history so what's the loss, as long as he wins? And he's fair, in his own way. He has his standards: you meet them and rise in the ranks. You fail to meet them, fail to fulfill the responsibilities you signed up for, and you're punished. Granted, his standards are incredibly high and difficult to meet, but therein lies the challenge and the sense of achievement, for those who thrive on it.
But he can do evil things. And very much enjoy them. Blackmail, torture, kidnapping, murder. Manipulating people, breaking and enslaving them, getting them to worship him like a god, all those fun things that "villains" do. Even to other versions of himself -- he's not excluded from the ranks! If those are the best ways to go about getting to his goals, then why, those are the ways he'll go about it. And he'll have fun with it. No point in spending time feeling bad when those are the most practical things to do anyway and therefore should be done. No point in spending time feeling negative about anything!
(Though sometimes even he can't help getting angry and such, but he's sadly still human too. Oh well, he gets over it soon enough. Annoying things, emotions.)
Of course, you won't get much of this by just talking to him. On the surface, he seems like a cheery, carefree type tempered by flashes of knife-sharp intelligence -- but not actively dangerous to most people, which isn't a lie. He'll hold random conversations with you, act all friendly and sympathetic, tease and joke and play around -- and if push comes to shove, slit your throat and put you in a dumpster if it suits his purposes, but that's only "if!" And even if it happens, no hard feelings, you were just in his way (he'd advise you, next time, to stay out of it) -- but now that you're out of his way, he wouldn't mind being "friends" again. And if you never got in his way in the first place, there's no need to fear him at all.
Unless one of your friends gets in his way. And he decides to kidnap or torture or murder you to get to them. Or you become collateral damage for someone else. Or you happen to become useful to him as leverage or a tool in some other way, or worse, you happen to become leverage or a tool for his enemies somehow --
Nothing personal!

» Appearance:
Byakuran's rather recognizable. White hair, pale purple eyes (when visible), and a tattoo beneath his left eye. He's tall and slender, usually wearing clothes that emphasize this, and he's almost always draping himself over some couch or other in a glorious show of laid-back slackerdom. He's almost always smiling, and appears to be cheery and friendly...

» "amatomnes" Entry:
[There's a man in white seated on a couch here, in front of a bowl of sweets he's brought with him out of the palace kitchen. He's popping them into his mouth one by one and looks perfectly at ease, if thoughtful. Then the bowl shifts on the table and jostles the device, making the man slit his eyes open and look over to see that the device is on.]
Oh.
[Then his eyes disappear again into a cheery smile.]
Hello. ♥
[The man in white pauses for two seconds, his head tilting slightly in thought. And his smile gets a little wider.]
I've been here before, haven't I?
I see broadcasts over this device from myself that I haven't made...
[He rolls a piece of candy between two fingers while he talks, then pops it into his mouth, biting down with a small crunch.]
Did I make any friends?
I'm afraid I don't remember.
» "amatomneslogs" Entry:
He dreams of power.
Of power. Of flight. Of the rush of white-hot fire at his back, in his hands, bending and twisting and shaping the world.
He dreams of nations in ruins. Cities broken and crumbling. He knows them to be truth in other places than here. But not here. Here, there won't be a need for destruction like that. Because here, the game isn't over yet, unlike those other places where the Tri-ni-set is already forever out of his grasp. This world still has worth. He needs to keep it intact.
For now.
How long?
Not much longer.
Then all the rules will change, and he can throw the game board away...
Byakuran wakes with a smile on his face, stretching out like a contented cat. Then stills as he takes in the sight of the room
( which room? he's seen a million different rooms in a million different worlds, each of which flicks through his mind right now. compared. discarded. one he recognizes? no )
and the faint sound of a bell as he moves.
Where is this? Nowhere he's been before. And he slowly sits up, eyes going narrow and dangerous, flicking from left to right and back again, examining his surroundings. The idea of kidnapping, he throws away quickly -- the fact that he's unhurt and alive is testimony to that. As is the decor, which is nice, if outdated. Which means this certainly isn't a hotel. And then there's the lack of security, of giant unguarded windows ( on the ground floor, even! ) looking out toward an ocean that he doesn't recognize either.
The quiet tinkling noise from before that accompanies his movements has him reaching up to his neck then searching for a mirror -- he looks up, and there's one on the ceiling above the bed -- and he breaks into a smile again when he sees what's there.
A little silver cat bell. It's almost cute. Fitting. But what is it for? And how did it get there? In his sleep? There's no buckle on it that he can find. What an interesting mess...
He slides out of bed, taking the sheet with him, and goes toward the windows to see more. And the fact that he can't quite place the city he sees in the distance has that smile dropping from his face to be replaced by a thoughtful kind of look. He's seen nearly everything on Earth -- he, or one one of him, anyway. And this place, he's never seen. The logical conclusion would be that --
If alternate universes ( alternate Earths ) can exist, if little Shou-chan can visit more than one, does that mean...? The possibilities are astounding. If they exist. One of life's rules not having been a rule all along? That skews everything, everything...
He'll have to recalculate, if that's true. But to determine whether it is, he'll have to find out more. Data. Information. More. And he won't find it standing here. The nap was nice but it's time to get dressed and explore --
Knowledge is power, after all. Byakuran knows that better than anyone else.
