Back at the not-grind. My hunny's office was open today, so her impromptu vacation has ended and she's beating back all the dragons that should have been beaten back last week but for the "little problem" next door. Me, I'm doing what I usually do on Mondays, and if you've been following along for the last couple of months, you already know what it is. (Get your head back up on the curb, you!)
A few tag ends:
Manual: complete up to the current software release version. A few errata corrected, and I'm waiting on a software maintenance release so I can get everything updated and put out the interim version. It's up over 70 pages now; not bad for a month and a half of banging on it a couple of hours a day.
Volunteering: the Big Sur International Marathon is coming up next Sunday. More radio-type volunteering, more networking. No, I am NOT running in it! There have been enough landslides in that area already!
Life in general: all things considered, not too horrible. I'd be happier if I had a stable, steady source of income, but the lack there isn't for any lapse of effort on my part. No one wants a middle-aged male with a weight problem in their office, not when they can get a young, cute, bilingual woman. No, I'm not being chauvinistic or sexist; I'm simply stating a fact. Most places I qualify to work (other than behind a steering wheel) won't want me; I'm cynical, have a clue, will stand up against obvious bullshit, and don't play politics. They'd rather have the young, cute, bilingual woman, because they're typically easier to push around (or replace if need be), will accept what they're told at face value (because they haven't been around long enough not to), and (putting it bluntly) give the visitors something to gawk at. Sex sells, no matter where it is...the only thing that gets more attention is blood.
Gleah, my brain is NOT a pleasant place to be this morning. Maybe I'll load up Half-Life 2 or something and take some of my frustrations out on some innocent and defenseless dots of light. Then I'll come back to online perusing and see if there are any positions open for which I can apply and that sound at least marginally promising.
