So. I transferred my driver's license to California back in August. I was told I could expect my permanent license to show up in the mail in two to three weeks.
I still don't have it.
The California DMV says if you haven't received it in six weeks, call.
I called. I waited on hold for a half hour, then got put on their "callback" queue. About 45 minutes after that, I was speaking to a real, live human person.
The license was mailed out on August 26th. It was also returned, marked undeliverable.
*headdesk*
I've received so much mail at that address already, ranging from official to routine "personal" to bills to junk mail to catalogs. I even received my voter's registration card, which I put in for at the same time I changed my license over. But they return my driver's license?
They're going to fax me an "interim" license, and re-issue and re-mail my permanent license. I should receive the reissued license in...
...wait for it...
...two to three weeks.
I really, really hope this doesn't put me out of a job. And it very well could.
This is what happens when a governmental function is operated as a for-profit business entity. Personnel and training standards get pushed down below the priority of watching the bottom line. And they wonder why their request to increase first-class postage to 46 cents was rejected.
Fuck me sideways with a chain saw.
