OMG! An actual post!

Yes, I'm still alive and kicking...well, alive, at any rate. Not a lot of room to do much kicking in a truck.

I'm still driving for a living, and scraping by as best I can. As slow as freight's moving, it's not easy, and I have to watch my spending VERY closely. But so far I haven't missed many meals (unless I wind up parked somewhere that doesn't have food nearby), and I'm comparably healthy.

I'm looking into changing companies. It won't affect my income level, but it WILL have me driving longer trips, get me out of the Northeast Corridor, and make for more predictable "home time" stops (which doesn't mean a lot at the moment, other than more frequent access to my mailbox). It also would get me into a different type of transport; rather than pulling a big box around behind me, I'd be pulling a flatbed trailer with Ghu-knows-what strapped and chained to it. The regulations for securing cargo to flatbed trailers are quite specific and quite involved...but that's a screed for another time.

I'm also giving VERY serious thought to relocating. Current areas under consideration: the Bay Area, the Gulf Coast, the Carolinas, or maybe somewhere in the Southwest. Pretty much in that order, too. There's a lot more going on there than I'm at liberty to talk about at the moment, so I'll let it sit for now.

Three things occupy most of my off time right now: writing, learning a new programming language (C#, for those keeping score), and The Sims 2. Every so often I'll go through a book or drop a DVD into the player, but those events are becoming rarer as my mind gets absorbed in more active pursuits. With the weather turning colder, I'm more reluctant to spend much time off the truck, and these activities are relatively inexpensive (other than the need for a fairly regular intake of coffee) and do a good job of keeping my brain engaged. Oh...is it a bad thing that I name Sims after characters in my writing? Or that I name characters in my writing after Sims?

Not much else to talk about at the moment, so I'll stop here. Take care, y'all.

*poof*
