Since I have been home from Northwestern Life has not completely sucked... But there has not been one day that has gone by when I didn't think- "I would much rather have continued life at Northwestern"
I had the best time there- I was happy living. I could do whatever I wanted. Here there are people all around me. So many people have this negative energy that you can just feel, and no matter how hard you try to fight it- their negative energy will bring you down. It is really hard to deal with.
So my day at Northwestern
6am Wake Up
grab my shower (it could be as long as i wanted)
back to dorm dry off put on clothes
Chill out in Lobby outside of dorm and do lots of stretches and warmups
7am Breakfast
All you can eat breakfast- I could drown myself in water. Felt good for the whole day.
7:30 Run to class
Everyone from my Core Classes would get together and we would run to our first class. It is such a good workout for us all, the actual running part of it yes, but also spending time together and chearing one another on!
7:50 Voice/Movement
Jonathan Becker Is the best teacher ever- He has taught me so much and I feel Like i keep on going backwards in my progress everyday that I am home with people around me. He had the best excercises that made me feel so good and happy. He gave me a larger range of motion to explore with. Also the room like the ballroom is much better for those kind of excercises them my living room- I often just go outside because it is easier to get things done there.
Thea also helped me throughout this entire class.
9:20 Run to Acting
We got together at the end of Jonathan's class and made a big circle of focused energy for eachother. We had a unified breath and let out all our tension. Then we ran to acting.
David Chapman is such an awesome guy! I miss doing Sun Salutations everyday in his acting class- i just can't do them alone- it is not that same at all. I keep gaining more and more tension and it is getting harder and harder to release it all. Davids class would have all kinds of work out things. We did Butoh walks were we all ended up sweating in. My shirt was always a different shade by the end of class because there was so much freaking sweat in it. And I am not one who typically sweats a lot.
We would also do a lot of yoga and other strength training exercises. I need more!
11:00 The meeting
Everyone from the Theatre arts classes would get together, we'd talk about new stuff that was happening and also had this seminar/lecture interactium about theatre history. I learned so much. All the faculty put things together to make history as entertaining as watching any old show. Comedia del'arte, Theatre of the absurd, Shakespeare, The Greeks- just to name a few.
12:00 Lunch- Like breakfast but with lunch food
12:30 Electrics crew
I learn so much about lighting fly systems, light design.
I was constantly put 60 feet in the air with 2 heavy lights in each arm- pretty freaking scary but once my life was no longer in jeopordy I enjoyed it.
Great Crew
2:00 Text anaylsis
Very interactive ways of getting into the text. But even in this class we were always on our feet exploring new things!
3:00 Performance Theory-
Learned different genres, styles, techniques to perform. How do you make peope cry? How do you make people laugh? Worked a lot of Viewpoints in this class.
4:00 Shakespeare/Chekhov
Studied the first folio technique of shakespeare. Worked on a breathscore to make his work excited and effective.
For Chekhov you broke all barriers- stopped acting and started feeling in the gut of the body. I loved this class- i loved all my classes
On alternating days I would also have"
2:00 Biomechanics-
Meyohold's method of acting. Used percision- from before a move begins until after in comes to an end you must stay precise. We did a lot with our bodies- moving around- backbend. Lifts. Flips- it was soo cool to see what we could really do!!!
4:00 Viewpoints
Taught by shade murray- I love his soo much! Viewpoints was developed by Anne Bogart- it is this method of acting- where you recognize space, spacial awarness, kinistetic reponse, tempo, archetecture, duration, and you shape while moving.
It makes a huge differance. Love Shade!
5:00 Dinner- every once in a while i would allow myself a dessert
6:00 Rehearal
Rehearsal for my show with director Shade Murray. Amazing cast. My show was bobrauschenbergamerica. We used a lot of viewpoints to block the show. Shade did not do any blocking for us which was really awesome- yet he did soo many other amazing things. I cannot thank him enough for all he did for us. The play is by charles mee
www.charlesmee.org.
rehearsal went to atleast 10:30 each night...
This is just basic things that happened each day- I loved it. I want this to be my day still but it is simply impossible when i am not in that enviroment surrounded by those people.
People here say "why don't you keep your schedule just like northwestern" Because my life is totally different here then at northwestern.
Studying at the prince music theatre right when i got home was defiatly helpful for me. Dance classes and voice classes also really help.
Nothing is like Northwestern though- nothing I have yet to experiacne atleast.
However Monster Mania 666 with TNP was sooo cool. Ernie Hudson!!!
I had an awesome time with my cast members. Atleast it was like theatre. That was a really good day that I desperatly needed.
Now it is 11:20 am- i should try doing some kind of yoga- because noone else is in the house- this is the time the I desperatly need- time to myself!
