Classic Romantic Movies

So instead of spending the night sleeping peacefully, I decided to watch 2 romantic/romantic comedy movies. One which is a classic, and another that hopefully will be a classic. And as worn, predictable, and cliche as they can be, they still moved me to the point where I have to write an entry about them.

My first movie was Bridget Jones' Diary. I didn't really get into the hype when the movie released, but after watching it, I understood why everyone went crazy about it. Like the women in the special features section said, it was like Bridget Jones was about me. Only I'm not 33 years old.. I'm a lot more overweight... and that about sums it up. So watching this movie supposedly gave me some perspective and makes me want to change my life. Whether or not it will, we'll see. (But right now I can probably say it won't) Shows how motivated I am right? Hah. But she is a heroine for girls like me, and when I say girls like me, I mean girls whose weight is as big as their naiivety. And naiive I am. I am one of the most cynical and pessimistic bitches out there, but damn, am i stupid sometimes. This movie really is a typical romantic comedy, 50% of it is because Hugh Grant is in it, but yea. Good script. Great acting. Good movie.

Second classic movie that I have been dying to watch since junior year was Gone with the Wind. If there is one thing that never changed throughout time is the manipulation of women. Amazing really how it gets passed on from generation to generation and this film really helped me realize this. lol. But damn, I gotta say this movie is about as corny, cliche, and predictable as a movie can EVER be. Yet I can't help from saying how much I enjoyed the movie. Katie Scarlet O'Hara is a heroine I can admire because of her character.. well except the part where she claims that she loves a man who is married and completely ignores the love she really has for her third husband. Oh, and the ending, I totally hated it. I was all teary-eyed and sobbing for the damn girl and she comes off with this corny line of "Because tomorrow is another day." But the main character is so amazingly strong, manipulative, and smart when girls aren't supposed to be any of that. Just something I like seeing, women strong. I hate that stupid idea where women are weak and can't make it through anything blah blah blah. my ass.

So yea, full long night of movie watching and I am satisfied with both purchases. btw, my DVD collection has hit 50. so maybe by the end of the year I'll get 100. i'm trying to get a whole bunch of academy award winners and whatnot, since my new fav movie is The Pianist. I rewatched it again like a couple of weeks ago and gained a HUGE appreciation for the movie. And I have about 3-4 DVDs that was awared Best Picture. So yea, that's an update about how my life is going. Movies. -_-'
