Prompt: Meeting the love of your life for the first time
Rating: Have you seen my story lately? Dark, yo.
Words: 797
Other: IMMINENTLY SPOILERIFFIC. Like, about to happen, and I need to make a post about that actually because of reasons, but this'll be showing up with pictures soon.

Dalton opened his eyes and was greeted with the unexpected sight of a cell, and not the one he usually slept in. He panicked for a moment - had Hideki locked him in?!

No, this was probably just the closest room with a bed - he remembered now, he must have fainted. That was probably preferable to the panic attacks and being sick, but not if it made Hideki angrier. Dalton had known less patient people, but Hideki had to have a limit, and Dalton... Dalton couldn't hold a knife near someone without having a panic attack, and couldn't watch what Hideki did to them without being sick or passing out. He didn't think it was getting better either, and he didn't know if he wanted it to be. But if Hideki started torturing his father or Madeline, or Dalton himself...

Dalton wandered the corridors towards his father's cell despondently, struggling to look at the other prisoners for guilt. Uncle Elliot wasn't in his cell again. Dalton didn't know where he disappeared to, since he'd never seen him tortured on the table and he could be gone days at a time, but he always came back alive at least. Not like Uncle Brawly.

When he reached his father's cell he was asleep; Dalton could tell the difference, even though it was only slight. Huey had told him that he could wake him at any time, but Dalton left it for now - Huey needed his sleep.

Not to mention that Dalton was starving. He'd grab some food while he could and come back later - if Hideki hadn't grabbed him first.

It was useless trying to hide if Hideki wanted you, but still he tried to be inconspicuous as he went up the couple of floors to the kitchen. He was so focused on that that he didn't notice someone else already in the room, who was as startled as he was.

The first thing he noticed was the green skin, closely followed by the fact that she was beautiful. Her red hair vibrant against the green... She had to be part alien, but her features were so human, her colouring a mixture.

Also she was scared. "Who are you?"

A better question was who was she, and what was she doing here of all places, and alone? And with a grilled cheese sandwich...
"I, um. I..." What did he say about his situation? He didn't want to associate himself with a torturer, especially if she was a victim too. "I'm Dalton. I... work here."

"With my father?" she asked, and her voice was pretty too - quiet and melodic, with a sadness about it.

"Who's-?" he started to ask, before feeling like an ocean of ice water had been thrown over him, running down his body. Hideki. Green skin. She was Hideki's daughter. Oh god. Who reproduced with Hideki? Then it occured to him that the better question might be who willingly reproduced with Hideki, and the answer might be that nobody did. "Hideki Tang?" he checked, hoping he was wrong.

She nodded, like she had no idea how terrible that was.

"Yeah. I work with him." He felt sorry for this girl, but he was also terrified of her by proxy.

"I'm Diana. I haven't really seen any other part-aliens around."

Dalton had to leave. What would Hideki do if he caught Dalton talking to his daughter? But she was starting a conversation, he needed an excuse. "Um, are you here to see your father? I could go get him for you..."

"No, he knows I'm here."

"He does?" Dalton really needed to get a grip on his curiosity. "Why are you here?"

She glanced down at the grilled cheese sandwich in front of her with a guilty expression.

"You're a grilled cheese person...?"

"I could stop," she said quickly. "I can stop. I will stop. Almost have stopped really," she added, looking at him warily.

"You shouldn't have to stop," he whispered.

"Yeah, if only I wasn't-"

"No. There's nothing wrong with it." Oh god, Hideki was going to kill him.

Diana gaped at him. "What do you mean? There have been studies done, you work here-"

"They're wrong, they're biased and-"

"One of them killed our mother."

That stopped him in his tracks. "A... A grilled cheese person? Who?" Dalton knew Seth Jayapalan had killed his aunt, but she'd had no kids, and he didn't remember another murder...

"Or a Ryman, I don't know. Our father won't tell us who, just that one escaped, and she was here, and..."

"I'm so sorry." That was awful. "But-"

"So don't tell me there's nothing wrong with it, because there is." And she stormed out past him, tears in her eyes.

Dalton was powerless to help.
