Prompt: Stargazing
Rating: U
Word Count: 392
Other: I have actually done this prompt in Myshuno Past (2011) in a more literal way, so thanks to Lauri for helping me twist it to something else, because I needed it in order to get a Myshuno without necessarily including any of the higher rated Elliot and Hideki stuff.
Rodney looked at the cooking instructions on the box. Maybe he should cook something else; he didn’t want Harris going around claiming that he’d poisoned his daughter.
Speaking of Liv, she was sat on the sofa, watching something on the TV. Sounded rom-com-ish, not really Rodney’s taste, so he was happy to spend some more time figuring out how not to make himself sick via his own cooking. He should have made Seth cook something for them and put it in the fridge before he went away - he was the ex-chef.
Screw it, he decided, and just stuck some simple pasta and sauce on to cook and went to see what Liv was doing. “What’s on?”
“Pretty Woman. It’s about a wealthy businessman who hires a prostitute to be his escort at social functions and then they fall in love.”
Ugh, Rodney thought, but forced a smile. Then he saw the people on the screen. “Is that…?!”
“Seth Jayapalan! He grew up here in Simfield too, I think he’s a distant relation or something. It’s so amazing that he’s managed to make it so big from starting here. He’s my favourite lead actor.”
Oh dear god. Well, it would be very easy to win Liv’s loyalty by introducing her to her favourite actor, but Seth Jayapalan… Had nobody instilled standards into her?
“And the female lead is Jessica Despret, and she’s my favourite lead actress. She’s so beautiful, and they have such good chemistry together…”
Probably sleeping together off-camera too, Rodney thought with distaste. “You probably shouldn’t idolise people you have never actually met so much. They might be terrible in real life.”
“Well… but they might be really nice! You never know. Have you ever met either of them?”
“Seth Jayapalan is a…n acquaintance of mine.”
“Do you not like him then?” Her eyes were wide.
Wow, what a question. “He’s… not perfect.”
“Most people aren’t though. Could I… Could I meet him maybe?”
Oh dear god no. “Ah, sorry, he’s out of town doing a film at the minute.”
“Maybe when he gets back?” she asked with a bright hopeful smile.
“We’ll… see.” Rodney was going to have to come up with more excuses. And try to toe the line between Liv being smart enough to see Seth and people’s flaws, and not being smart enough to see Rodney’s own. Being a parent was hard.
