Oldest Kidling is taking art classes in school and has a summer project of pencil sketching backyard nature. So with this in mind we went out yesterday after the rain and took several pictures of things in our backyard that might lend themselves to being sketched. These are a few of what we came up with, thought I would share whats in my backyard.

I honestly dont know the name of this plant/flower. It was here when we bought the house. My Mom calls them Cannon Lilies. We have several clusters of these plants all around the yard in various colors. This was the first bloom the the year of all of them.

This is 2 dead willow trees that have overgrown with other plant life. Its a mish-mash of ivies (both the nice kind, like english ivy, and the not nice kind like poison ivy. Amazing that something so pretty can be so itchy!). The Brazos river is in the background.

we have several mimosa trees on our property. The one in the front yard is blooming. I love the pretty blooms but have to admit they can be a pain in the patooti as the flowers blow off the tree (thats its way of seeding) and get into *everything*. Hubby has to spray off the airconditioner at least twice a week or the vents get clogged!

We have many many types of trees in our yard and this is one of the oaks and Oldest Kidling liked the contrast of the tree bark and the ivy. The ivy is just a "creeper ivy" that grows wild out here.

Another type of "creeper ivy" (this one I had identifed as english ivy) thats growing on one of the many trees. Oldest kidling and I took this pic for the bark, vine and ivy contrast and then saw that some "ladybugs" were in the picture too! Seems the aphids love the ivy, and they are great for the plants.
