Dogsbody Season One, Part C

Dec 29, 2012 15:09

Title: Dogsbody; The Adventures of Allie Hale
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Genre: Alternate Universe, drama, touch of romance.
Style: mostly narration based.
Warning: contains canon-typical violence and death, implied statutory rape [mostly from knowing canon] and something that isn't actually attempted sexual assault in the previous chapter, but still has vibes that way, and is a reminder of the possibility. Let's just keep it in mind as a warning for potential bad shit in Season Two, okay?
[ie, Peter Hale and Kate Argent and Jackson Whittemore being themselves]
Pairings present in fic as a whole: Jackson/Lydia, Stiles/Allison, Scott/Lydia, unfortunate Kate/Derek.

Training with Kate is the most surreal day of Allie’s life. It’s kind of like getting fighting lessons from Laura, actually, except instead of a comfortable silence between bouts, Allie has to evade needling questions about the identity of the second Beta, and Kate smiles a lot more than Laura ever did.

And the longer she’s around Kate, the more memories from when she was eleven come up, of how Kate would sit between her and Derek while they were watching Cinderella, and Derek would get all quiet. How Aunt Kate and her dad- how Kate and Chris Argent would get into arguments, sometimes, when they thought Allison was asleep.

Kate says that once they take down the Alpha, she’ll let Allison’s parents [“And your grandfather, I know he’ll want to meet you again.”] know how well she’s down. Allie bites her tongue and smiles.

Kate Argent has had a long day; first there’re training her niece without scaring the kid off, and then a tip comes in that night after they part ways that Derek Hale’s Camaro was seen heading for the woods, and damned if she’s gonna pass that opportunity off.

She’ll wait on telling Allison- if the kid’s this tight-lipped about a Beta she’s only known a few weeks, she’s definitely not gonna appreciate hearing that they’ve captured Derek.

Stiles gets a panicked call from Scott, saying that Peter Hale showed up to take Melissa on a date, and Stiles mounts what he’d like to describe later as a Daring Rescue, but was mostly taking advantage of human tendency to rubberneck, and the Alpha’s previously demonstrated desire to pass his murders off as animal attacks.

He gets back from that- after driving Melissa home -to find Allie passed out on the couch again. It’s a relief seeing her there; she’d called every couple of hours all day, but that hadn’t stopped him from worrying that Kate would decide family ties weren’t as important as using Allie as werewolf-bait. He drags his bedding downstairs and curls up on the floor next to the couch.

In the morning, Allie calls Derek out of habit, and Stiles gets to watch her face shift from disappointment, to panic, when there’s no answer.

The next few minutes are a flurry of “WHAT IF PETER KILLED HIM TOO? WHAT IF KATE FOUND HIM? STILES WE HAVE TO FIND HIM.” Which are interrupted when Scott knocks on the door.

Scott has:

1) gotten Stiles to rescue his mom,

2) tried to rescue Jackson from Derek and therefor indirectly from Peter,

3) gotten shot,

4) seen Derek get shot,

5) been patched up by Dr. Deaton,

6) had Peter Hale show up at the Animal Clinic and remind Scott that he can’t protect everyone,

And 7) realized that his new cell phone is missing, and he thinks Derek might’ve taken it.

Stiles suggests that perhaps Scott should go make sure Peter doesn’t harass Lydia, and didn’t even have to shove him out the door after that because Scott took off like a rocket, and when Stiles turned around again Allie was giving him a measuring look.

“Okay, I think I know how to find Derek. But if he can’t handle a bunch of Hunters, Scott definitely can’t, and I’m not letting him get shot again, okay?”

~

“His username is Lydia? …his password is also Lydia?”

~

They bring Lydia into the plan, and the existence of werewolves, during lunch- Scott’s off in a corner arguing with Jackson -and are pleasantly surprised that they don’t have to explain nearly as much of what’s going on as they expected.

Lydia would rather they just call the police and report Derek missing, but Stiles and Allie are both strongly against that plan. Keeping the police in the dark is one off the Rules Allie grew up with, and Stiles doesn’t want his dad put in danger.

In the end, Lydia shows up in the bleachers during lacrosse practice, and passes Allie a little vial of chemicals that should melt through locks, and walks away. Scott can smell it, and Stiles and Allie can’t keep him out of things after that; he’s totally up for rescuing Derek anyway.

Allie calls Kate and asks if they can train some more, which leaves just two associate Hunters at the Hale house. Scott hits them both upside the head with his baseball bat, unlocks Derek with the keys on the table, and pours Lydia’s concoction over the electric-shock device.

Stiles’ is the get-away driver, and once again, hosts an injured Derek.

~

The next couple of days are a great big game of Kate pretending she’s not frustrated that her prisoner escape, and Allie pretending she doesn’t know anything about it.

[meanwhile, Derek is staying under Stiles’ bed, and trying to figure out what the hell to do with his loyalties. Because Peter is family, but so is Allie. And Peter did kill Laura, even if he didn’t mean to. Derek just wants everyone to get along, and wishes he could bake a cake out of rainbows and sunshine and fix everything, but the chance for that died six years ago]

But in the course of everyone pretending Everything Is Fine, Lydia drags Scott and Allie, and consequently Stiles, with her to the mall to get their outfits for Winter Formal. Which of course is when Peter decides to remind them that they really are much more vulnerable than they like to think.

He talks to Lydia first, because she’s a little farther apart than the others, what with Scott being loaded down with the dresses she’s considering, and she’s the only one that won’t recognize him on sight.

Lydia figures things out pretty quickly when Allie sneaks up from under a rack of skinny jeans and stabs Peter in his kidneys. Unfortunately, he just pulls the knife out and pockets it. But it gives Lydia a moment to back away, and for Scott to fling the armload of dresses at Stiles and get between them all.

Peter doesn’t mean any of them harm, he swears, he’d just like to point out the merits of working together; Scott won’t have to worry about Hunters accidentally shooting his loved ones, if he helps Peter get rid of them. And Allie, wouldn’t it be nice to be on the same side as Derek again? It’s not like their goals are that different; he can tell how much she wants Adrian Harris and Kate Argent dead. And if she can work with Kate to take down Peter, why not work with Peter to take down Kate?

No? Well, he hopes they have a nice time at the dance.
