The Great Clean Out Starts

Before we start the remodel of the house we have to clear out the spaces that are going to be demolished, and eventually clean out the whole so that the floors can be refinished in the part we're keeping.

We started by cleaning out the storage shed in the back yard that we build a few years ago, under the principle that we'll use the space to store other stuff during the construction. In a day we cleared out two full trash cans worth of paper, filled 3 boxes to go the the thrift store and two large bags of trash that won't fit in the trash cans - at least not this week.

We also pulled out 4 boxes and 2 paper grocery bags worth of old financial paperwork to be burned in our fireplace.

One of the hard things about doing the sorting was that one of the boxes we'd been storing was full of papers from my Mother. I found assorted pictures and some stuff she'd kept about my dad, including the newspaper article about his death. One of the things that stuck out about it, was that he was only 53 when he died. Since I'm 47 now, I can't help but think that he was so young. I mean the last picture I have of him was within a year of his death and he had gray hair and a receding hairline, so he always looked old to me, but I don't think of myself as old at 47. I know that technically I'm old enough to be mother to an adult child and that in past eras I'd be old, but nowadays 53 just seems adult, not old.

Any thoughts on what age is old?

deep thoughts, remodel
