Every so often I complain about celebrities. I say they are vapid and irritating, and I stand by that. People like Piers Morgan and Paris Hilton should NOT be famous....AT ALL.
BUT! There are some celebrities who I really like, they inspire me in various ways so....here's the beginning of a possible series of people I love starting wiiiiitthhhhh......SIR IAN MCKELLEN!!! <3
1. Sir Ian McKellen.
WikipediaThere are so many reasons why I love Sir McKellen. He's a brilliant actor, he's got a great sense of humour, he played my favourite LOTR character to perfection, he's very liberal and outspoken and just fantastic!
He's a magnificent actor, and so here is a 1976 shot of him as Macbeth. He was pretty yummy, no?
He was born in 1939 (making him 70 years old), he's openly gay and an active campaigner for Gay rights.
" I have been reluctant to lobby on other issues I most care about -
nuclear weapons (against), religion (
atheist),
capital punishment (anti),
AIDS (fund-raiser) because I never want to be forever spouting, diluting the impact of addressing my most urgent concern; legal and social equality for gay people worldwide."
YAY! ^^
He was in the Simpsons!
He's got a wicked sense of humour too:
"In 2003, during an appearance on Have I Got News For You, McKellen claimed that when he visited Michael Howard, then
Environment Secretary (responsible for
local government), in 1988 to lobby against
Section 28, Howard refused to change his position but did ask him to leave an autograph for his children. McKellen agreed, but wrote "Fuck off, I'm gay."
Lulz.
He's got connections with other celebrities I love: He had a crush on Derek Jacobi when he was eighteen though it went unrequited he also introduced himself at the closing of the Gay Games by saying "I'm Sir Ian McKellen, but you can call me Serena." A nickname STEPHEN FRY gave him (<3!).
So yeah, I LOVE him and now here is some picspam:
His tattoo that himself and the rest of the "fellowship" from LOTR got, It's elvish for nine and apparently they all held hands in a seedy tattoo parlor to get it done. Aaaww...
So there we go! One of those inspirational people I was talking about. Someday I wish to be able to act somewhat like him! Or at least well enough. He is one of the reasons acting appealed to me as a possible career.
Anyhoo, peace out!
