I think Pryor and Lincoln would have voted yes, if they had one more vote, one vote from the Republicans, but since they didn't at least this way they have political cover back in their races. Not that it will help Lincoln.
What's unbelievable about this to me is how partisan it is, split right down party lines.
I keep wondering what the basic issue is that divides most Republicans from most Democrats. And I would have thought it would be something like redistribution of wealth. After all, they split right down the middle on issues like health care reform. But to see every single Republican vote against freedom of speech for gays in the military, after they constantly say they are the party that stands for freedom, just makes me so mad!
It's like, there are no individual issues that anyone thinks about any more, it's just two teams fighting each other. Whenever one team chooses one issue, the other one has to fight for the opposite, whatever that is. Aggg!
