Less than a week into the New Year, Montgomery County experienced its first automobile fatality when a Shenandoah woman died early Friday morning.

Jacquelyn Marie Duffy, 22, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital at 5:06 a.m. after her car was found wrecked in a ditch on Texas 242 near Academy Way around 2:20 a.m., according to the Department of Public Safety Conroe Communications Office. It was determined Duffy skidded off the road and struck a tree, the DPS dispatcher said.

“A deputy was driving on 242 and he saw a vehicle in the ditch with the light on,” DPS Cpl. Michael Chapman said. “She was not doing well. She had struck a tree.”

Driving a 2000 Honda Civic, Duffy was traveling west on Texas 242 just east of Academy Way when the accident occurred. Duffy veered onto the left side of the road, overcorrected, skidded to the right side of the road and then struck the tree on the driver’s side.

Dear Jacquelyn Duffy

I still have yet to meet someone who was as energetic and spirited as you. You were always in the best mood every time you ever came to work. Even when you were having a shitty day, you still were talking my face off with a smile. I hope that you enjoyed your time while you here (as short as it may have been), and I hope you get to see your dad where your at now. We havnt talked in a while, but know that you are missed.
