Master List of Yuletide Recs

Stories that made me *squee* sorted by fandom:

Addams Family (movieverse)
The Last Rites of Wednesday Addams
Great character voice (Morticia in tight 3rd person) with superb black humor in keeping with the films, focusing on a traditional rite of passage from her side of the family and how it affects Wednesday. 13K, gen, safe for work

The Adventures of Pete and Pete
Thursday
Rec'd purely for the nostalgia value. Exploding dairy products and a Pete/Ellen bent. 8K, het, safe for work

Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes Series
The Twelfth Night Dinner (A Fragment)?
Rec'd for its unique presentation, that being a take on the ages old ivory tower speculations and treatises on the canon. 7K, gen, safe for work

The Only Jealousy of the Brothers Holmes
A few scenes between Mycroft and Watson. Beautifully written and delicately handled. 7K, gen with implied Holmes/Watson, safe for work

The Affair of the Dutch Steamship Friesland
A case referenced in The Norwood Builder but never documented, now here recorded. Reads just as though ACD had written it. 39K, gen, safe for work

Batman Begins
The Kid From The Narrows
Gets good mileage out of the 2nd person POV as the kid grows up, with a squeeful ending for the comics fans out there. 22K, gen, safe for work

The Highest Reaches of Hell
The lengths Bruce goes to for the sake of his secret identity. Short and sharp and with a nod to comics canon. 8K, gen with shades of the billionaire playboy, safe for work

For It Shows Me the Stars
A stream-of-consciousness rendering of Batman's thoughts as he struggles against the urge "spill his guts, both literally and figuratively," under truth serum. A great blend of Beginsverse characterization and comics canon. 14K, gen with a blatant reference to past Ra's/Bruce, possibly NOT safe for work

Q&A
Introducing Vicki Vale to the Beginsverse. Not to be confused with the Vicki Vale of Keaton's Batman. Some good name-dropping. 16K, gen, safe for work

Batman Beyond
Come Build in the Empty House
Picks up right after Return of the Joker, but is only kinda sorta about picking up the pieces. Excellent Bruce characterization. 60K, only background hints of het and slash (Terry/Dana, Terry/OMC), safe for work

Wolves
A lovely perspective on two members of the future JLA. 2K, het (Marina/Rex Stewart), safe for work

Batman: The Animated Series
The Slope
A drabble, dark and exact, in portrait of Bruce. Gen, safe for work

First Time Out
Dick's first mistake as Robin has him worried about what Batman plans to do about it. The nature of that mistake--and Batman's reaction--is shockingly believable. Great character piece. 5K, gen, safe for work

If Wishing Made It So
Bruce, Selina, a museum, Christmas eve, and muted longing. 8K, gen with shades of Bruce/Selina, safe for work

Birds of Prey (comic)
Evidence
The surface of this story is about Barbara trying to figure Bruce. 7K, het, NOT safe for work.

Blazing Saddles
Black and White
Jim contemplates Bart, and is almost-but-not-quite-surprised at where he ends up. 6K, slash, safe for work

Cable & Deadpool
Forth Wall
A drabble-full of WIN. Gen, safe for work

Casablanca
Aux Armes, Citoyens
A look at how things could have gone after the end of the film, with great research and excellent characterization. Bittersweet and very realistic. 27K, gen, safe for work

Commercials
Hanging out, BFF
Damn them for being so irresistibly cute! 5K, gen, safe for work

Hasta La Vista
Welcome to the new genre of fluffy crack. Or, wherein Mac helps PC deal with his rather messy breakup with Vista. 3K, safe for work, implied attachment--both emotional and physical--between gloriously anthropomorphized bits of hardware and software both.

Forever Knight
Damages
Janette helps LaCroix, early season 1. Great characterizations. 8K, gen, safe for work

James Bond, Casino Royale
The Best At What We Do
M contemplates that arrogant, reckless idiot she promoted to double-oh. 5K, gen, safe for work

A Rattling of Cages
Bond's into the wars again in this neat character sketch hidden behind an adventure story. 28K, gen, safe for work

J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion
Owning Light
The tale of the Dwarves' theft of the Silmaril from Thingol's treasure, and their ensuing fate. Great narration that reads like Tolkien. 9K, gen, safe for work

Forge and Fatherhood
In support of the belief that Fëanor can be written as decent father while still staying true to his character. 9K, het (Fëanor/Nerdanel), safe for work

Kung Fu: The Legend Continues
Worth a Thousand Words
A glimpse or two into Kermit's past. This one was written for me, but even without the bias it's worth the rec. 7K, gen, safe for work

Leon aka The Professional
Rite of Passage
Mathilda, a portrait in brutal snapshots. 3K, mentions of het, possibly NOT safe for work

Live Free or Die Hard
September
John and Matt, reconnecting, and the absolute very beginning to whatever follows. 13K, pre-slash, NOT safe for work

MacGyver
On the Occasion
Murdoc has a surprise for MacGyver on the occasion of his 40th birthday. 8K, slashy overtones, safe for work

Wayward Son
Sam gets lost. Mac has to find him. MacGyverisms and warm fuzzies ensue. 40K, gen, safe for work

M*A*S*H
Perchance to Sleep
A great character piece for BJ. 14K, gen, safe for work

Silent Treatment
Hawkeye gives it a go, but how long can he last? 13K, could be taken as pre-slash but I personally think its funnier as gen, safe for work

The Sound of Bells
A fascinatingly unique perspective for a Christmas fic. 5K, gen, safe for work

You Can't Go Home Again aka Dear Sigmund, Again
Dr. Sydney Freedman writes another letter to Sigmund Freud from the 4077th, this time over and loosely about the holidays. Reads just like an episode. 22K, gen, safe for work

Prince of Egypt
I sayeth unto thee
Moses might be the chosen of God, but he's also the brother of Pharaoh. 10K, gen, safe for work

The Princess Bride
There Will Be No Survivors (Except for the Survivors Behind the Curtain, But Pay No Attention to Them)
Westley lets Inigo in on a few secrets about being the Dread Pirate Roberts. Subtly hilarious. 14K, gen, safe for work

The Simpsons
The Fearless Moral Inventory of Milhouse Van Houten
Futurefic. Among other things, Milhouse still loves Lisa. 12K, gen with mentions of het, safe for work

Terminator
How to Change the World Without Even Trying
An interesting look at the progression of John's thoughts after his mother's arrested. 7K, gen, safe for work
