those weren't my words, i was just curious as to why. but anyways, buddhism is nice.
traditional buddhism tends to focus on an ascetic, individual approach to the attainment of nirvana. suppression of desire, removal from the world, and solitude.
you eventually realize the final goal of full enlightenment, or buddhahood: an omniscient, blissful mind completely free from suffering and its causes, that is able to work tirelessly for the benefit of all living beings. Six virtues or perfections (paramitas) are listed for the bodhisattva: generosity, patience, meditation, morality, energy and wisdom.
that was based on wikipedia documents to better articulate my support of mahayana buddhism
i don't practice buddhism or worship buddha. but if i were forced to join a religion, it was for sure be this. just because i don't think i'll ever be sure about a higher power (which i guess means i don't exactly believe in "god" but still entertain the possibility) and this sect of buddhism encourages you to think for yourself and basically only asks of you to be a good person. reasonable? yes.
also, buddha is not a 'divine teacher'. only a man who discovered 'nirvana' and wanted others to discover it. buddha isn't even worshiped in mahayana buddhism, he's basically just the founder.
his role varies with each sect, but we do know that he never recognized himself as superhuman. the only reason people began to worhip him was because they admired his nobility so much.. and i think that started long after his death. i believe that is 'hinayana' buddhism. i could be wrong though.
Well, part of Buddhism is accepting him as a teacher, like part of Catholicism is accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is still putting one person above the rest, even if not worshipping them. I understand that Buddhism is very liberal in it's beliefs and in it's restrictions but I still believe that great minds really do think for themselves.
