Just a thought.
1) The writers of truly great fandoms (Buffy, Doctor Who) are some of the most gracious people out there. Joss Whedon is a freaking doll. He knows it, you know it, I know it, the entirety of the world knows it (the fact that it was I that told them is beside the point). Steven Moffat posting up at doctorwhoforum.com is like... I feel like I should be starstruck to even be on the same website that he's been on. Moffat is like... IONO. THe man makes me laugh(coupling), makes me cry(The Girl in the Fireplace), and makes me squeal like the girl I am (Blink). He is... GOD. If my words could ever reach a 12th of what he done, then I'd be just fine with the world. Just fine.
2) The Buddies you make. People you know in real life. (Yes, I have a life. I even have a boyfriend, aint that a shocker) They really don't understand what in the world you're going on about! (HOW DARE YOU SAY TENNANT ISNT GORGEOUS! LOOK AT HIM AGAIN AND THIS TIME PROPERLY!) They dont understand about ships. about what we analyze, what we obsess over. It's completely amazing how involved we get. And that's not even with the fan creations(which is next)
3) Creations. If fandom just doesn't bring out the talents in some people. God knows there are some writers out there who are god awful and should just stop while they're ahead but... I'd like to just say that some of the best writers i know are from the fanfic world. And by "I know" i mean ALL writers, including poe, king and pullman. I only know them by their screennames but some stories are just... masterpiece. If you're into Lord of the Rings, ask me to send you a copy of The Bond by Thuriniel. It's frikking brilliant. Fan art brings moments to life that would have never been realized. Fan fics is just a world of tis own.
okay... i'm done. I'm just marveling at the virtual world i devote myself to for a few hours a day. It's nuts... but it's AWESOME.
