It's been a long, long time since I've written anything here and I figured I'd jot down a few lines before taking off to San Antonio for Thanksgiving.
In a nutshell, I'm still dating the beekeeper and yes, things are going well and progressing. I'm also still working at the State Library and Archives. I've recently become unhappy with the apartment complex I've lived in for the last 6/7 years because of some very petty, complaining neighbors. Basically, I live very near downtown in a complex with mostly 20 & 30-somethings and a smattering of older folks. As it happens, a coven of old bitches live all around me and decided they didn't like my boyfriend and so submitted a formal, written complaint regarding him being an "unauthorized guest" at my place a few nights a week. The old biddies got their panties in a knot over his presence and the fact that he'd occasionally bring his dog over.
One day my neighbor beneath me (who's caused me problems several times before) decided to set up a dog fence thingy around her FRONT door so she could let her 3 ankle-biting chihuahuas stay outside and bark at passers-by. God knows her reasoning since we have our own PRIVATE balconies in the back! One day Brandon took his dog (on a leash) down that staircase and the ol' witch snapped, "Would you mind using the other staircase?!? You're causing my dogs to bark!" Brandon snapped right back. After the two of them exchanged a few heated words, my frizzy-haired Mid-western nemesis indirectly threatened to report him for being here without paying rent & yadda yadda yadda.
A few hours later when things calmed down the beekeeper went to her and apologized for snapping. She broke down in crocodile tears at one point and claimed she never threatened to report him. Well, that turned out to be a total lie since about a week later I found a "violation of lease" notice taped to the INSIDE of my door!
I was utterly furious and when I read it noticed that I had been turned in for about 6 different supposed violations, mainly concerning Brandon spending a few nights a week with me and his dog being over.
I eventually got things settled with the manager and everything worked out okay in the end. What gets me more than anything is that little Ms. Rich Bitch from Kansas dared to turn me in for lease violations at all when she's also violating the lease in many ways: having THREE dogs is a violation; keeping them outside w/o a leash is a violation; setting up a fence outside her door that blocks easy access to the staircase is not only a lease violation but also a fire hazard.
The nerve!
Not surprisingly, immediately after that happened she took off-- back to Kansas for the holidays I suppose.
Good riddance! I hope she trips on a cow patty and squishes one of her ankle-biters!
My plan was to turn her in for her own violations, though I haven't had time to do it yet and will probably wait until she gets back.
I'm quite certain I know who the other complainers are, and I know they all ganged up on me because they all hang out together and gossip all the time. One of the other old biddies is a total drunk who claimed that Brandon was abusing Queequeg (my dog) because she got loose one day and he tried to stop her from running away by stepping on her leash. Well, the drunk lady told management he was kicking her!
Believe it or not, there's been more but I don't have the energy to write it all.
Loooooooooong story short, I've just about had it with living here and am planning to move as soon as my lease is up in the spring. In fact, I'm set on renting a house with a yard this time. It's all very upsetting; up until now I've LOVED living here and have never had any problems with anyone before, but The Coven has ruined it for me. Brandon and I both feel totally judged and uncomfortable here.
So that's probably the biggest news I have at the moment. Right now I'm in the office alone, hoping that the library director lets us off early (though I doubt it). Tomorrow I'll join my parents for Thanksgiving and then on Friday I'm off to a friend's bachelorette party extravaganza in the hill country that will last all weekend. On Monday I'll be coming back to Austin. I have plans to buy a 50" flat screen high-def t.v., Blu-ray player, and a new home theatre/sound system over the holidays too. Yippee! Bring it on Black Friday!
Now, if only they'll hurry up and release the extended editions of Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray...
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
