It goes against everything I believe in but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the first few episodes of each season of American Idol. Sure, many people are wrongly put on national television just so we may laugh at their terrible misfortune in auditions, but then... there are some who deserve it.
This guy... I don't remember his name... He. Was. So. Great.
He was exploited in the commercials as one of those crazy applicants, with his retro hairstyle and pinstripe suit, but... wow. He sang "Delilah" by Tom Jones in this crazy style, like if Tim Burton could sing, then mix that with John Spencer Blues Explosion. He did end up getting rejected, but none of the judges denied his talent. They said he had presence, but not the kind that would be appropropriate for the show. Simon said he ought to dress in women's underwear and sing in cabaret clubs. TALENT. SQUANDERED.
