Oh, sweetie, I am so sorry to hear about the pneumonia. I had a similar experience in 2002, and I know just how horrible it is. Until then, I had no idea it was even possible to be that sick. It was the only time in my life that I have been so sick that if I'd been on my own, I would not have been able to care for myself. Usually, even when I feel utterly terrible, I can manage to get myself to the bathroom and the shower and stuff. But not with that pneumonia. I couldn't even sit up.

I had gone to a professional conference in Toronto. I had a cold - just a standard cold, or so it seemed - when I arrived, so I got some Thera-flu and assumed I'd feel better as the week went on.

But in fact, I got worse and worse, and by the third night, I couldn't even get out of bed without passing out. My partner called the hotel desk, who called paramedics. As soon as they registered my super-low blood oxygen level, they broke out the stretcher. I have confused memories of being wheeled through the hotel kitchens (they obviously didn't want any stretchers taken through the main lobby) to an ambulance at the back of the hotel. The Young Man was only five at the time, and they let him punch the siren as we drove. He still remembers it.

I ended up spending an entire week in the hospital. Partner and Young Man had to fly home when the conference ended, and my brother and sister drove from Ohio to Toronto to bring me to my mom's house so I could be taken care of. I know just what you mean about the weakness afterward. . .it took me quite a while to feel 100%.

I send you all my best wishes for a quick recovery!

As for the US committing democra-cide. . .I can't even bear to think about it. The future is going to be worse than we can imagine.

Best of luck with the new place! It looks so inviting.
