Greetings! Day Eight has arrived!
Today's drawing is for
orlando_switch and
kellychambliss! Orlando requested a drawing from Kelly's wonderful story
The Thing With Feathers, which features Andromeda Tonks and the grandest dame of them all, Augusta Longbottom!
And that most marvellous thing with feathers - her famous hat!

Look at me going rogue and peeking early in the day. There is so much texture to this one that it is fantastic. I love when older women are able to pull off crazy fashion. I will never be that person, but I admire it in others.
This year’s entries have a different feel to them. I don’t know if it is because they aren’t holiday themed. Or because it isn’t the usual pairings on repeat. Or if your mood is just different. Or if it is the freedom to draw any prompt on any day. I can’t quite put words to it, but whatever is happening, I am enjoying the heck out of it!

These entries definitely felt different to me as well. I think (for me) it is mostly not being held to particular prompts and being able to pick and choose things that shout out to me I NEED TO BE DRAWN! Even though it took longer to accomplish, it felt less like a job and more like a good time. :)

The wrinkles are a glamour. She started adding them over the years to make Dumbledore stop calling her "my girl". And they scared the B.S. out of many a pompous windbag.

Love this idea!

That is hilarious and I absolutely believe it! :D

I love the feathers and the wrinkles! What a glorious portrait, excellently done! (That's a brilliant fic. Also the best use ever of a line from poetry as a fic/art title :D)

Thanks so much - I'm delighted you enjoyed the wrinkles as much as I did! :D If only I could enjoy my own that much, lol. And I agree, that fic is fantastic!

I'm (almost) speechless with joy and admiration! Wow, dearest Mywitch, this artwork is simply spectacular. The level of detail, the spot-on majesty and extravagance of that vulture (a masterpiece in itself), Augusta's weathered, timeless face, her perfect period robes, the quotation. . .everything comes together to make my favorite portrait of Augusta ever. Tough old ladies forever! Thank you, thank you! I'm in love with this, IAnd thank you, Orlando, for requesting it!)

Thank you so much for that wonderful comment. I am soooo happy you enjoyed this drawing! I loved your story and it was really fun for me to imagine an Augusta that suited your fabulous words. Tough old ladies forever!!! Yes yes yes 💙

Wow, this is so her! You have depicted Augusta in her austere way with the formal, old fashioned robes we know she would wear. She might be not that old in reality but everyone can see she has seen a lot during her life. And her hat, the glorious hat! You've made it clear why she loves that hat so much and draws strenght from it. And also why others might find it a bit creepy, with the vulture in attack mode. It is indeed a battle helmet and it's totally understandable she had commisioned it when she heard Frank and Alice couldn't be healed. Thank you so much for your talent and imagination.

Oh O, thank you so much for that beautiful comment! I am so glad you pointed me toward kelly's story, which is an absolute gem. And I am so happy that this drawing of Augusta fits what you had in mind. We should all have a battle hat like this, to give us strength to get through our days! xxx
