Banff Weekend

We left Saskatoon really early. We headed west, and the land was still flat.

By lunch time, nodoby had any clue where we were, since the vast majority of Explorers were sleeping on the bus. All we know is that there was a huge cactus where we stopped to eat our turkey sandwiches prepared so carefully the night before.

The place was pretty barren... some sort of truck refueling station or something. They had the biggest car wash I had ever seen before.

Cloudy and flat. Grassless to boot... looking at that scene for too long could depress anyone. But for us, it was the lunches that were depressing. Fortunately for us at the time, we didn't know lunches would be the same all weekend.

Janet was nice enough to take my picture on this work. To the left, you can see our lunch bags.

A wagon wheel? Maybe it was Alberta. Very Western-themed.

Everyone loves photo ops.. except they weren't looking at me... except one.

And so our voyage continued. The end of the Praries were in sight.

Almost instantly, the terrain transformed, as if someone in a map editor made hills.

Drumheller, Alta. As we drove through it, we could see dinosaurs on every street corner. We stopped in town on our way back to Saskatoon.

Afterwards, we did take a short break at Horseshoe Canyon, one of the muddiest places in Canada.

Chris posed for a shot with a canyon as the backdrop. Everyone posed for many pictures. Aren't digital cameras grand?

The canyon, while beautiful, wasn't "Grand Canyon" impressive. Maybe if it were sunnier...

TADAAAA!

A bunch of people got toether for a picture. I took a picture of those taking pictures. Jammie looks so out of place. Moriah looks afraid to fall, Shirley is concentrating on getting a good picture.

Mon amie Janet et moi posent bizzarement.

Me and Cat. A U fo S shirt under a Waterloo U sweater. Scandal!

Janet, Ryan and I. I have no idea what Ryan is doing here.

Anna and Shirley :O there were only like a dozen guys out of the 67 people who went to this program.

ooh a curious prairie dog came out to check out the action (and crackers). They're waaay cuter than groundhogs.

We finally made it to Calgary! And the skies were breaking.

For dinner, we stopped at Olympic Park, the site of the 1988 winter olympics. There were flags for every country that participated. Jamaica!

The store was closed, but it houses the Jamaican Bobsled. I thought that was pretty cool.

In the restaurant, Deb and Adda were relaxing.. or something?

For dinner, we has rice and chicken and vegetables and stuff! It was pretty good, though a little bit salty or something.

Afterwards, some of us went and explored the durrounding area.

What a great street name!

Joren was happy to be out of the restaurant in the Olympic Village.

Britta's mascor, Georges, tagged along for the weekend. He got into all kinds of trouble.

After leaving, we slowly made it towards banff. Whoa, that land is in the clouds!

Justin and Angela were happy to finally make it to our destination.

We stopped for 5 minutes while Debra went to buy marshmallows. I stepped out of the bus for a moment to tale a picture. Saddle Mountain maybe?

It's absolutely crazy that the background is all mountian and cloud. It was an awesome sight.

Once we made it to the campground, we had to set up our tents. It was much work.

Mark and Graham were pensive about something. Maybe Brokeback Banff?

Trees. THere were lots of trees in the foresty campground.

Afterwards, we made a campfire. No graham crackers was a completely disappointing situation to be in, but we survived.

We still managed to roast marshmallows and do crazy things.

mmmm fire.
