Here we grow!

My balcony garden is coming along nicely. I'm out there several times a day talking to fussing with my plants and chatting with random passerby on the sidewalk below who stop and say fantastic things like "What's that thing you're growing that looks like corn?" or "Are those onions?"

It's pretty neat to see strangers get so excited about my garden (it also makes me feel a little less weird about my own garden-giddiness). About half of the people who stop to chat with me say they might try something like what I'm doing at their homes. The other half say it's a great idea, give me a big smile, and wish me luck.

Clockwise from top: zucchini, snap peas, herb pot, carrots (square pot), potatoes, and radishes hanging off railing. Not shown: my green onions (scallions) that are also hanging off the railing, and my corn.

Clockwise from top: zucchini, snap peas, herb pot, tomato (very bottom of picture), corn, carrots (two square pots) potatoes. Left railing is green onions, right railing is radishes.  Centre: my cat (non-edible) and another tomato plant

Same as above, two days later and sans cat (she's not that patient). Notice the growth of the potatoes and zucchini in only two days... I was a little worried about my zucchini because it wasn't growing and the leaves were gradually turning yellow but the weather finally turned warm and it's taking off now. So I think it just needed some heat and sunshine.

Did a little rearranging of my garden to maximise sun exposure. Clockwise from top right: corn, tomato, mystery squash/melon (bottom right corner), zucchini, and potatoes. On railing: green onions and radishes. Not shown: my second tomato plant and snap peas.

My herbs are now on the table next to the chair I was standing on to take most of the previous pictures. Back: large pot with chives, flat parsley, bush basil in the back (all bought as starts), and sweet basil (started from seed).  Front, left to right: chives, sweet basil x2, savory (all started from seed)

A harvest of French breakfast radishes and green onions, on their way to participate in a tasty potato salad.  Yum!

I'm quickly becoming known as "that crazy girl who's always taking pictures of her plants". So needless to say, I'll have more pictures to share as the season progresses.
