"And my mind too. It's my mind that makes it the worst. Did you have nightmares after you got out, Russ? I have nightmares. Not as bad as I did before, but I still have them."
Russ closes his eyes and gives a short nod. "Yes. Still," he says quietly. "I don't think they'll ever go away now. Not for me." He takes a deep breath, shakes his head and takes a long drink of beer.
Will nods. "Somehow I know they will always be with me too. Maybe not every night, but every once in awhile I will have them. They're just something we have to learn to live with I guess."
Russ smiles at Will, looking at him curiously. Its strange how they seem to share so much in common despite having such different backgrounds. They're not even the same species, and yet he has a sense that in some way they can still understand something of what the other has endured.
He finishes his beer and asks the waiter for another. "I think I'd like to stay in New York a little while," he says, by way of lightening the conversation. "Do you think you could put up with me for a few days, maybe show me the sights?"
Will bites his lip and looks thoughtful for a moment. "Ummmmmm. Well, I dunno..." His face breaks into a grin. "Sure, of course. I would love that. Have you ever been ice skating?"
Will looks slightly alarmed. "Oh no, it's not like that. I was just teasing you." He smiles again. "Ice skating is... you have these special shoes with blades on the bottom and you skate around on the ice, like a frozen pond or something."
Russ raises an eyebrow in a sceptical expression. "That sounds... interesting. I think I'll just watch you do it." He finishes his half of the pizza and picks up the dessert menu. "What else is there to do here?"
"Actually, I've never done it either. Just watched people. Maybe we should both just watch." He grins. "Let's see. We can do the usual tourist stuff. Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Central Park. If we had money we could catch a Broadway play or something."
"I don't have much money," Russ replies. "Not money that would be accepted here, in any case. So cheap is best. But I'd like to see those things, if we can." He points at the dessert menu. "I want that next." He's pointing to 'Death By Chocolate'.
Will laughs. "Go for it. I'm way too full so I'm going to have to just watch you eat it and maybe taste a little." He looks thoughtful. "And you know, maybe my dad will let me borrow some money if we want to do something really cool."
"Nope. Do they have chocolate in Middle Earth, or did you just discover it here?"
ooc: Will says this thread can end whenever you want. he's eager to get to his training. Is it something that we can actually show Russ teaching him or that you'd be willing to write out?
[ooc: ok. I'll think of a way to wrap it up in the next post It is getting kind of tedious now. *g* As for the combat thing, I could write it but I think it would work better as a standalone story. Maybe we could work something out over AIM this weekend? Meanwhile I'm off out, back in about 5 hours.]
Okay, that sounds good. We'll see what's going on this weekend and then confer. I mean not you write it by yourself but as a thread, although i'm sure you knew that. Have fun~!
