"I'm just glad I realised what I needed and wanted before it was too late. Before I got hurt too badly. Getting beat up... that was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Asshole," he mutters, lighting his cigarette.
"I am glad you realised it too." Looks at Will silently for a little while, wondering at his own feelings, and why he has inexplicably become so fond of this human boy. He blushes again, and looks away, hoping that Will hasn't noticed.
"Good." The elf nods and smiles back. "You know, if there's anything you need, I'll help any way I can." He shrugs a little. "I don't know how, but I would."
"You're doing it already. I want more friends. I used to think I had to have sex with everyone I met and I never really learned to just hang out with people... or, er, elves. But now I know just having regular friends is important. I just want to be a regular guy."
Russ almost spit his beer over the table. "Kiss what?" He laughs again. "You humans have such strange sayings. There's only one person I'd say kiss my ass to, and it's no insult."
"Yeah," Will laughs a bit harder. "I don't know where it came from either. And I don't even really know why it's an insult. But then 'kiss my grits' makes even less sense to me."
"I've never heard of that one either." He shakes his head "I have clearly led such a linguistically deprived life." He frowns. "What is grits, anyway?"
"Grits are..." He pauses and stares off into space. "I looked them up once because I wanted to know too... it said... they're made from hominy or something. Well, I didn't know what hominy was so I looked that up. Turns out it's corn soaked in something and then they wash the hulls off. I think it's mostly a southern dish."
Russandol chuckles. "I might have guessed, if it's American it would have something to do with food." He pulls a face. "It sounds like the sort of thing we ate in Beleriand, when there was nothing else left."
"I think people actually like them. Or it. I'd like to try some and see what it's like. Hey, you and me should do that together some time. See if we can find some grits. We should be able to in this city. It has everything."
