"After 2000...no more Juans."

Mar 06, 2017 23:22

The title of this entry is a quote from one of the students in my night class, who uttered it after drawing a line graph to demonstrate how much the popularity of his name had fallen off between 1975 and 2000. He may be part of a dying breed, but no one can ever accuse him of not doing his research.

Lots going on, little I can talk about in a forum like this. Funny how that works. Here's the condensed version:
  • Am convinced there's an untapped market for a dramatization of my siblings' lives. Not sure if soap opera or novel would be a better format.
  • Beat Final Fantasy XV with the platinum trophy. It's consistently fun, but the plot...is missing something (i.e. proper pacing and characterization). Am now jumping between Dragon Age: Inquisiton (on Nightmare) and Civilization VI (when I don't need a cure for low blood pressure).
  • Have hardly been doing any socializing, aside from going to see Kool & the Gang with a coworker and Logan with my dad over the weekend. Would recommend Logan as much as I would any recent Marvel movie (i.e. unreservedly), but don't stick around waiting for a stinger when the credits start rolling.
  • Have not been doing nearly enough creative writing. Lots of ideas; just need to put them on paper.
  • Have two classes (one morning, one evening) this semester due to dwindling enrollment at the Northline campus. Have also been helping my friend and former coworker Brian with curriculum and lesson development for a project he's undertaking. Any ESL instructors who are interested in helping refugees learn English and integrate into American society are encouraged to contact me for details.
  • After interviews with program managers and the program director, got an e-mail from her informing me that I'm one of the top four candidates for (one of four) full-time permanent ESL instructor positions at HCC. The final step is a meeting with the dean on Wednesday, which seems to be more of a formality than anything else - as long as I remember to wear pants, I've got this in the bag.
  • Heading to St. Louis this weekend to visit my aunt, uncle, and my cousin Robert and his wife (three of whom I haven't seen in entirely too long and one of whom I've only seen on Skype). Should be a great opportunity to rest, relax, and explore a city I haven't visited in more than 20 years.
We now return to your regularly scheduled radio silence, until something worth elaborating upon happens. Stay awesome, dear readers.
